Are there any drawbacks to paying wedding vendors early?

I'm wondering if there are any drawbacks to paying our wedding vendors early? Our florist, DJ, and videographer require payment in full anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks before the wedding. If we have the money saved up now, is it OK to pay them and get it out of the way? My fiance is worried that if we pay them early, they won't show up. If we had the option of paying them the day of, I think that would be the best. But since we have to pay them beforehand anyway, I don't see any drawbacks to doing it earlier.

I'm just thinking of my own sanity...hoping to take care of some things early rather than adding "pay florist," "pay DJ," etc. to the to-do list for the crazy month before the wedding.

Any thoughts/advice?

Thanks!

I’d wait just for the simple fact that these kinds of businesses are small, which makes them more vulnerable to going under than a big business. If you pay them six months in advance, and they close shop in 3 months, what happens to your money?
Reply:Yes - there are. We paid for our wedding flowers in advance (non refundable), and we were planning an outdoor, May wedding at a lake. 3 days before the wedding the forcast was calling for snow and highs of 40 degrees - we had to switch the location to a church and the florist would not deliver it to the new location, so not only did we not get our wedding flowers, but we were out the money we paid for them as well!
Reply:I would talk to your vendors and ask if you can put 50 percent down and 50 percent will be held by your mother or another trusted person to be paid at the wedding after you see the work and make sure that it is what you are getting charged for unless you really know how you are working with...This is how I also charge my clients as a wedding planner....This way I gain their trust but have enough to trust them also!!!!!!
Reply:same reason you don't have a shower until a month before the wedding or a month before a baby is due- things can go wrong and the wedding may not happen when you've scheduled it. I would wait and keep your money in the bank, especially if it's earning interest.
Reply:The biggest drawback is that the money could be in your own bank account drawing interest for YOU and if you pay them early, they are the ones getting the interest on your money.
Reply:i am also getting married July 26th! i am waiting until it gets closer so i dont have to worry about something happening with the companies and not getting my money back.
Reply:I think it could affect the quality of service or product you get from them.

They might just be like " We already have their money, who cares if we dont show up on time"
Reply:Yes, if they go under, you will lose all of your money...and you could be earning interest on that money in a savings account.
