How much should I charge someone to use my photos on their site?

I am a professional wedding photographer. I was recently asked by a florist how much I charge for the right to use my photos. She wants to post them on her site and use them in her portfolio. In the past, I have just asked for my name to be used, however, she doesn't do that. She wants to buy them. Any idea what the going rate would be??

Ask her what she wants to buy them for. Seeing as how you don't care about the money, and you usually ask for just your name, if you ask her, no one will feel offended at the price. Plus, if you ask for a bit higher than what she wants, you can get a little extra that way. Every picture is a different amount, you can't just ask for a going rate. It's how much they mean to you and how much the buyer wants them for.
Reply:The Ace is on to it do what he says. One additional point if you are selling people shots or there are people in the shots, model releases are needed if you want to be professional and protect all concerned.
Reply:The going rate is $35 per image for one month. $100 per image for three months and $250 per image for one year.

This gives you some wiggle room if they are trying to do this on the cheap.

I always bill them the full amount and the give them a "first time" or "special" discount which matches the agreed upon fee. In this way they know what my fee structure is the next time they want to use my images. The discount requires them to list photos by .... and a link to my email and website. Without those, they pay full bore.

Remember you are selling right of usage ... not the image.
