I am getting married in May, when I called a florist to discuss the flowers he asked me my flower budget. When I said $1000 he laughed a little. What is normal?
What is the normal flower budget for a wedding?
your flower budget should be roughly 8-10% of your total budget .. do not overspend on flowers ... i love the look of fresh flowers but you can use the money elsewhere. In my eyes $1000 should get you a nice little bundle of flowers so please completley ignore that florist first because he is rude and unprofessional and secondly well i don't have a second one he is just rude and unprofessional
This is a suggestion that I will make but think long and hard before you take this task on but you can order flowers from growers and put your own centerpieces and boquets together but only if you are trully confident in your design skills and your ability to be functional and graceful under pressure The flowers come in packages called weddings in a box here is a link

they offer a tutorial package as well which is about $35.00 the flowers begin at 160.00 and go up to packages that cost 995.00 ....
Good luck !!
Reply:i personally believe is a waste of money but the typical is around $3,000-$4,000 dollars. My friend had this huge wedding and only in her centerpieces she spend $7,000. they were beautiful but i would never pay so much money for flowers.
p.s i do live in nyc where everything is double the regular price
Reply:Our wedding was around $600.00
3 BM bouquets-$75
Brides Bouqeut $100
Groom %26amp; Groomsman Boutinears
5 parents coursages
personal attendant
2 brothers boutinears (walking mom down aisle)
and a memorial bouquet
Reply:Hi. Go to another florist. Do not go to one that laughs at your budget. As others have said, you can get a lot for $1,000. I paid for the flowers for my son's wedding and we only spent $684 and we had LOTS of flowers...many, many corsages, bouts, toss bouquet, bouquets, etc. Most all of them were roses too!
Go to another florist! Good luck!
Reply:you can save money by using some silk/latex flowers. especially for flowers that aren't important like ontop of the cake. also for centrepieces. get a vase and put flowers in it and then fill up with water to the top and float a little candle on top. nobody will know they aren't real flowers because they can't touch them. and artificial flowers can be better for the male button holes because people are always brushing up to hug them and the petals can get ratty. check out the artificial flowers on ebay
Reply:Go to another florist. Your budget is pretty large. If you're not doing this already, talk about budget first before you discuss anything else with your new florist. You should say "This is my budget. What can I get for this price?" - not - "I want this. How much will it cost me?" You can go to this web site to get an idea of the average amount brides spend on flowers in your area: http://www.costofwedding.com Good luck!
Reply:We are getting married in June and our budget is 20,250. But this includes very detailed floral centerpieces. It ended up being about 20% of our budget. It depends greatly on who you use. For your budget you could probably go to a nice wholesale flower shop and make your own boquets with your bridesmaids the night before and they would be a lot cheaper and probably just as nice if not better.
Reply:It depends on how many bridesmaids, centerpieces, decorations for the church, etc. If you look at some florist websites (like ftd.com) you can get an idea of what florists charge (a lot).
I bought flowers (roses and calla lilies) from a wholesale florist and paid less than half of what a florist would charge. Of course you or your planner or some creative person you know will have to make the bouquets but so what? You will save a lot of money.
good luck.
Reply:Well. It depends what you need flowers for. I spent about $1,500 in flowers. That was for my bouquet, 6 bridesmaid bouquets, flower girl flowers, boutenerries for all the guys, dads, and grandfathers. Flower for the moms and grandmoms and flowers for the church along with bows for the pews. We didn't have flowers for centerpieces are the reception.
Also, what kind of flowers you want. Some flowers are very expensive. One of my friends spent close to 5,000 for her flowers for her wedding.
Find a Florist that will work within your budget, that will find flowers that are pretty and will look nice, but aren't alot of money! You would be surprised of the types of cheaper flowers there are out there, that look great! I really don't think there is a "normal" with flowers for a wedding.
Happy Planning!
Reply:It would depend on the size of the wedding party and type of flowers you are wanting. Check out this budget sheet... it says 8% of your total wedding budget. just an idea...

Reply:what?! do not go to him! are you getting floral centerpieces for your reception? how many girls? i'm getting mine for just under $1000. that includes bridal bouquet, 2 bridesmaids, 1 jb, flower girl bouquet, 2 mother's corsages, 3 other corsages (readers, greeters), 9 bouts, 2 large alter arrangements. that is $962 incl tax. that isn't a super deal, but within my budget. also, the flowers are all roses except alter arrangements (those are roses with others mixed in).
Reply:It depends on what you are willing to spend. Also prices vary from one area of the country to another. In a small town in the Midwest, $1K may buy you a ton of flowers but in a larger city like L.A. or NY, you would be extremely limited on what that would cover.
