Does anyone have their own business doing weddings?

Any service in the wedding industry! I want to hear about how you do things. I am a florist and looking to start a home based business that will allow me to serve Brides by providing them with custom floral designs for their weddings. I am experienced in wedding design(10 years) but I need tips on how to get things rolling without starting a storefront and high overhead costs. I am also already registered with the state and have a tax id #. Any tips are welcome!

I know there are party planner courses offered on the web, check if there any wedding planner courses offered. You do realize being a wedding planner involves much more than flowers. A planner usually has a florist that does the flowers for them. Do you have the refrigeration needed. a stock of supplies, contacts for the table covers, a limousine service contacts, wedding cake bakery contacts? These are a few of the questions you need answers to , before you can become a wedding planner. I had the same idea years ago. I gave it up when I found out how much it involved that wasn't floral related. I now do strictly party planning, with no fresh flowers.
Reply:I don't think this is at all the answer you are looking for, but I wanted to put my 2 cents in anyway. I think the key is to really put yourself out there. Offer to do your first wedding free and let people really get to see your work. Make sure to get a website with prices and pictures...I am currently planning a wedding and find that this is not an easy thing to get. Be friendly and punctual and word will surely get around. Best of luck to you. :)
Reply:Hook up with other people (not florists) who work in the industry: banquet facilities, jewelers, photographers, limousine services, houses of worship, etc.
