Which flowers (colour and type) would go with dark green for a wedding?

I'm trying to come up with a colour scheme for my wedding and I was set on the idea of having a traditional off-white wedding dress, my bridesmaids in dark green dresses and all the flowers white with deep green foliage. The problem is that when I have said this to people, the response has been that it would be a bit colourless, particularly in the photos. I would still like my bridesmaids in dark green so my question is, what flowers would go well? Should I add another colour in there? I have tried looking for pictures of weddings with bridesmaids in dark green but have had no luck, I've come to the conclusion that it's not a popular colour!


I have spoken to a couple of florists but at the end of the day it is my decision so they haven't been able to help me.


I have asked a question here about my dress and have been given loads of good advice so thought I woud put this dilemma to everyone too!

I think dark green and white are great together. And you're right, dark green isn't a popular color right now, it's been replaced by all shades of light green.


I would stick with white, or perhaps do an accent color of perhaps bright tropical colors or light pinks. I noticed that a lot of posters put red, but I think you're going to have to be very careful with that combo, because it can come off as being kind of Christmas-y.


You could do a light green mixed in with white, so it isn't as stark. Like this:

Reply:Try cream flowers rather than white to match your dress and add a couple of red flowers for a burst of colour.

Reply:sunflowers or tiger lilies would look nice. I actually think any flower would look nice with dark green since the green is like the leaves, including white. Depending on time of year, you could also do something like cherry blossoms, blue hydrangeas, or lilacs. Also, the daisies mentioned by someone else would be cheerful.

I can't think of a colour that would go personally (I love Dark Green and think the colours will look lovely!, I got married in a dark Red bodiced dress it's beautiful), I think if you add a colour you're going to spoilt the Green, maybe a hint of Silver in amongst your flowers would break it up a bit, I really wouldn't worry, there are a lot of traditionalists out there who will not like anything away from tradition, if you're photographer knows what he's doing your pics will look perfect. A traditional wedding is white for goodness sake, there's no colour at all in that!
Reply:White flowers would be lovely with green but some added color such as pinks, purples, yellow or even red (Xmas wedding?) and various green flowers would be even lovelier. Some questions to consider -





Do you have a wedding theme? (old-fashoned, modern etc)


Is your off-white dress more of a cream color?


What season are you getting married in? (not all flowers such as peonies, hydrangea are available some times)


Are you leaning toward more roses with other filler flowers? Orchids and/or other tropical flower? or mixed garden bouquet?


Floral allergies (such as lilies)?





If you can answer these, I can better help. Also, if you look at Google images for "wedding bouquet" and add colors you're interested in (green white pink red yellow, etc.) you'll get some ideas. Post a link and I can help you identify the flowers.

Reply:hmmm if u are in cream then dark green foliage would look nice next to your dress but the cream flowers would get flushed out. If your maids are in dark green maybe give them some flowers that are mostly cream with a tad bit of green so the green flowers dont get flushed out. (so u are alternating if that makes sense)


There is not many colours that go with green other then cream, you could try pinks but be careful it doesnt look like something out of the 1980's! .

green is my favour, and you dress should not be white also, but as you said, light cream.

My bridesmaids dresses were dark green and because I had a half-planned wedding seven years before I got married, I had a bunch of stuff that we made work. The beauty of having the green is that it matches the stems of the flowers, so any color that would come on a flower would go. We went with pastels.

Reply:yellow and orange always goes well with green. The type of flower is entirely up to you. Roses, carnations, even tulips if you can find them. I would add a little yellow here and there, but not a lot. Just enough to brighten up a tad. White roses are the best in my opinion though. Weddings are not supposed to be full of color. That is why most stick to the pale colors. So if you want green and white, then have it.

Reply:How about very delicate pink? Something even softer than baby pink. I am thinking of two-toned roses where the edge of each petal has a dash of pink... and the rest white.
Reply:My cousin did this. It was a dark green but irredescent, so it reminded me of emeralds. She had everyone carry 2 callalillies and it was gorgeous. You don't need multiple colors. You have green and white as your colors. You could also have them hold cream colored roses. She had them wrapped in a metallic ribbon but mussie tussies are great as well. Very antique classy.





Try using ferns to decorate as well.





Another popular color is to do dark green with wine/maroon but I think thats a rather masculine combination. Still nice together though.
Reply:I'm having my bridesmaids in forest green. It's also quite a dark green, I was going to go for white flowers also, till my mum pointed the same thing. I've chosen lemon and yellow flowers instead. Hope this helps and your day goes well.

Reply:Daisies might look nice. Also, you can do a brightly colored arrangement of deep reds, oranges, purples, blues, and greens of whatever flowers are in season: roses, carnations, etc.





If you are dead set on using the white flowers though, I would go with it. People always give their opinions even if they're unsolicited and then they don't give it another thought. I don't really agree with the comments. I think white would look nice with dark green.
Reply:I had a fall wedding, and the colors were hunter green and white. My dress was Diamond White, and the flowers of choice were Calla Lillies. Don't listen to what people say - my wedding was absolutely gorgeous! I would not have changed a thing. The green was the accent color, and believe me, I think you will be pleased. Remember, this is your wedding. The only people that you should be worrying about pleasing is yourself and your husband to be.
Reply:What about exotic flowers with green palm leaves (a bit like a rubber plant circa 1980!) My friend just got married in pink, we were in white and her flowers were just like this, with a few white lilys thrown in. They were stunning! The colour of the green doesnt have to be exact as long as it tones in.

Reply:As soon as I saw this question I thought white flowers would be a great contrast! I don't think it would be colorless at all. White lilies or calla lilies, or maybe orchids would look nice, just off the top of my head. Even if it isn't a popular color I think it would be beautiful having them all in green...go for it, if that's what you like :]

Something off white like that might look nice especially if your own dress is an off white color.
