How much can i expect to pay for wedding flowers?

before i pick a florist, can anyone tell me how much they think i could expect to pay all in? i'm getting married in belfast, so if anyone has any handy hints about there, they're very welcome!

Flowers are very expensive, mention wedding and the price doubles. Go to a few florists and get price lists before choosing one, and ask if you can see some examples of their work. They should have a portfolio.
Reply:They're not cheap, that's why I decided to have silk flowers instead. To be honest I just bought some new ones from a charity shop and made my bouquet and buttonholes etc with them. They cost less than £20 and I have still got them 3 years later. Although real flowers are nice they don't last and nobody could tell the difference between them and my silk flowers so I would totally recommend them.
Reply:I paid $800 for my florist...that included her labor charges, all the flowers, and decorations... but I really looked around to find her... most florists in my area wanted about $1500 for the same thing

I used all real flowers... and all of my flowers were roses... but I did mostly simple decorations... the theme for my wedding was "simply elegant"... so my centerpeices only included a single red rose (with other stuff around it) and each of my bridesmaids bouquets only had 3 roses and the rest greenery and additions.... personally, i think fake flowers are tacky looking because they are obviously fake... I also think that weddings that "over do" flowers are tacky as well... your decorations shouldnt look like the flower shop blew up...

Reply:You have to be more specific if anyone will be able to help you. It has to do with the type of flowers you want, what the season is and if the flowers you want are in season or out of season in which case they will have to be shipped (more $$$). You can save money on flowers by not choosing flowers for your table centerpieces. You can use a variety of other items instead of flowers for centerpieces that will save you a ton of $$$ - the centerpieces are a huge hunk of the cost.

It really depends on the flower you want to use- something like Daisy are very cheap.

Reply:I approached a florist in a local shop and asked if she would like to do my flowers without her boss knowing, she was very flattered and got the flowers direct. It cost me £180.00 for my bouquet, 3 bridesmaids, table decorations(60 grand prix roses) groom, best man,4 ushers, and mums flowers!

It's a good idea to know what flowers you might like and a rough idea of the costs before you visit the florist - if you know roughly how much you can afford a good florist should work with you to get the flowers you want within your budget.

There's lots of ways to save money like choosing seasonal flowers or flowers that are more cost effective such as Gerbera instead of Calla Lilies - your florist should be able to advise you on this when you visit for your consultation.

Also it's a good idea to get at least three quotes to make sure you get value for money and find a florist that you can work with.
Reply:Using artificial flowers can save you a ton of money and if you are creative you can design the arrangements yourself. If you are set on real flowers check out some online florists, they have some wedding packages available for less than a local florist might charge. If you must use a local florist, use one that isn't very well known in town to save more money. The total amount you can expect to spend depends on how big your venue is and how well it is already decorated and also on how large your wedding party is.
Reply:it depends if you want to use real flowers which in my opinion are way over priced . In the united states roses a dozen are 21.99 down the street from me at the florist . so I guess it depends on what kind of flowers you want as well . I think you would be better off going with artificial flowers and you will always have them to look at later . You cannot do that with real flowers .good luck and congrats on the wedding .
Reply:You can expect to pay anything...from $10 to $10,000 on flowers...it just depends on what you want. My flowers were about $500. I got fake, but I got a lot...well, what seems like a lot to me anyway.

If you want calla lilies, they will cost more. If you want daisies, they will be pretty cheap. Carnations are cheap while roses are more expensive. It just all depends. Talk to a few different florists and look online, compare prices, and pick what you feel is the best deal.

Reply:I live in Michigan. My flower cost is $700, but I found a local florist who doesn't do anything really elaborate, but still does beautiful work. So I was able to get everything I wanted well below what I budgeted ($1200). Make sure to shop around because the second florist we went to had prices that were double the first.

This does not include any kind of centerpieces, as I'm making those myself. It does include everything else: 12 boutonnieres, 8 corsages, 4 bouquets, cake flowers, altar arrangements, and flowers to tuck in the napkins, and rose petals for the cake table. I didn't have to compromise on anything.

And don't do silk flowers for bouquets, boutonnieres, etc. I really think you'd regret. I am filling a tall rectangular vase with water and putting in a silk orchid for each of my centerpieces, but those are the only fake flowers I'm using.
Reply:I bought a variety of silk flowers from ebay and made my own arrangements for the altar and pew ends for our wedding in August 2006. I made 25 buttonholes, my own bouquet and 7 bridesmaids posies. The flowers, foliage, ribbon, tape etc cost no more than 70 pounds and whats more I really enjoyed creating my own, discovered a hidden talent and saved a fortune! I wiil e-mail pics if you like. I am on a strict budget, we have a chapel and a elks lodge for the reception. Does any one know where I can look at for cakes, catering, florist, photgrapher in or around Florissant, Mo?

i'm having my reception at the banquet hall of my fiances fire house... i am on a budget too... and our wedding is going to look great!!!!

cakes... try grocery stores. they might not have 6 flavors of cakes and 20 fillings but most ppl are fine with white or chocolate cake and a "normal" filling of custard or fruit...

i'm saving almost $3.50 a serving by going to shop rite for my cake.

i'm also having a smaller cake and a dessert table to offer more selection.

for catering... contact your local community college or culinary school, shoot even home ec of some highschools... class project?... see if a student or class will take on the task for the cost of food plus $10 an hour to do it.

or post on craigslist for your area that you need a caterer for your wedding...

keep the menu super simple. pasta with red or cream sauce and a salad or chicken croquettes with gravy and mashed taters with green beans

browse the services section of craigslist for photographers and djs too. post that you are looking for one too and see who replies (i found a few for $300 for 6 hrs myself)

oh look on myspace for your area too... i have found photographers ads under the classified section too

for flowers... if you are handy and crafty... look at the floral dpt of your local grocery store or bjs/costco type stores. many times you can order flowers and create your own bouquets and centerpieces.

i've seen some great looking already made bouquets... i would get those and put them in pretty bowls as centerpieces.

if not i recommend afloral.com. silks are so realistic these days. i got silks from here and they are so real looking. nobody will know they aren't the real deal unless they are nose to petals in to my bouquet.

oh almost forgot ... post on craigslist under wanted... ask for left over wedding things that ppl are giving away or selling cheap...

and join your local yahoo freecycle group. i did and have rcvd lots of free wedding goodies. i got a decorative card holder/bird cage that retails for $50 for free from a recent bride who just wanted to clear her post wedding clutter...

and don't forget to yard sale and hit up walmarts craft/fabric dpt- sales!!!! and depending on when you are getting married- check the after holiday sales for goodies-

i was able to get votives for the tables $.40 each in glass holders and they are scented! we got holiday ribbon for under $2.00 a spool on clearance after christmas too
Reply:Go to the local boards at http://talk.theknot.com . The ladies there are very helpful and most of them are also on strict budgets.

If there is a Boston Market in your area, they have full service catering very cheap. Also your favorite restaurant may be able to cater. Most restaurants are more than happy to cater and are actually cheaper than wedding caterers, and you get alot more for your money.

If you have the patience, you can put together your own flowers. Costco/Sam's has inexpensive bouquets. Or ask a local community college if they have an floral design class that can put them together for you.

If at all possible, you shouldn't skimp on photography since you will have your photos long after the food is eaten and the flowers die. You can ask a community college if their art/photography class can photograph it for you or else hire a professional.

Even if you are a professional baker, you should not attempt to make your own cake. It is a project that requires a ton of experience that most people don't have (it is nothing at all like making a birthday cake) and it has to be done last minute to ensure freshness since your guests don't want to eat frozen cake. You will have so much else going on the last day before the wedding that you won't have time to bake, decorate, transport, or assemble a cake. Go to a grocery store bakery that you love.

Don't make your family and friends work at the reception. Speaking from experience, they do not get the opportunity to enjoy the wedding like everyone else does.
Reply:Food: Have family members prepare thier signature dishes. Aunt Betty always brings a green bean casserole to the potluck? Bingo, she can contribute this!

Cake? Buy or rent a small 2-3 tiered cake. Have the baker make one layer for you guys to cut and the other layer(s) out of decorated strofoam. After you guys have cut your pieces have the cake removed from view. Buy a couple sheet cakes that will be cut up in the kitchen and serve this to your guests-- no one will know!

Music? I'm sure you know someone or know someone who knows someone with either a ton of cds or an ipod full of music.

Flowers? go to sams or costco and buy bouquets of flowers (cheap!!!) tie 3-7 flowers together with pretty ribbon.

Photographer? got someone in the family with a digital camera and a good eye? they can do a scrapbook of your wedding. As my gift to my grandmother for her surpize 80th party, I did just that. I bought a ton of paper and embellishments in the theme color- purple. My aunts laid out cameras on the tables. I'd advise against this. I got stacks and stacks of useless pics. One lady there was in love with her granddaughter. So I got mutiple shots of the child!!!

Reply:do you have a friend who has a knack for making pretty cakes, or making good food? have them make it as your wedding gift. as far as a florist, you're going to have to search for those.. try online, since it seems to be cheap. or try to find pretty flowers that don't cost way too much money. you could always try to grow your own. but that would take time and work. hire a freelance photographer from your area, it's cheaper than going through an agency. just make sure to check references.. and look for a small business for catering.. they'll do it because they need the money, and you will probably get a good price.
Reply:I'm going to stack sheet cakes for my cake, using dowel rods between the layers. I'm going to use a half sheet, quarter sheet, and eighth sheet.

The only bakery in my small town won't even assemble a wedding cake on site, so I'm going to buy cakes at Wal-mart. Why should I pay for specialty service when a place isn't willing to give it?

It's pretty easy to assemble stacked tiers; I've done it before. You just insert dowel rods or drinking straws (cut to the bottom layer's height) at four points where the perimeter of the smaller layer will rest and lower the cake board onto the rods. With a grocery store cake, you might have to trim the cake boards with an Exacto knife or something so that they don't show.

Edit: Okay, is the thumbs down because I'm using sheet cakes? Because people use all kinds of shapes these days; I've seen plenty of rectangle layers in wedding cakes. Usually in combination with round or square, but what's the big deal if they're not?

Is it because the cakes are coming from Wal-mart? I'm far from the first person to suggest getting cakes from Wal-mart.

Is it because I'm stacking the tiers myself? I bake and I know how easy -- and it is easy -- it is to stack tiers.

Or is this just the thumbs downer who follows me around because I once called her out on being really rude to someone?
Reply:Do you have a local SAM´s CLUB in your area? If I was having an event that needed catering, I would check there. They have food, flowers, cakes, and chafing dishes and other supplies to keep hot food hot and cold food cold.

I don't live in NY but most bakeries will let you sample stuff so one of these days when you have time , dedicate your day to cake searching , take your maid of honor or someone with you to help you choose. Go from bakery to bakery and taste samples of what you want . Good Luck :)

I have had some crazy ones lately! I had a dream that the florist dropped off the flowers at my house the day before the wedding (and I mean just the flowers, not arranged or anything) and told me her son was sick and I would have to do my own flowers. I had a nightmare that my Aunt who is doing my hair for the wedding (she is a stylist for a living...been cutting my hair forever) didn't show up and I had to do my own hair....and more of the sort... I know its just wedding stress, Im not to worried, but I wake up and I'm like ok whats up with me!? So, to all you brides out there-are you having crazy nightmares? If so tell me about them, lets laugh at how crazy we are becoming! :)

My wedding isn't until June 21, 2008 and already I've dreamt:

1. My hairstyle is HORRID

2. My makeup makes me look whoreish.

3. People get lost coming to the event hall.

4. EVERYONE RSVP's with a "no"

5. Half RSVP "no" and show up anyway.

6. Most RSVP "yes" and don't show and don't bother calling.

7. Our car gets stolen the day of the wedding.

8. A hurricane washes out the location of the event hall the day before to the day after the wedding date.

9. People interpret "comfortable beach wear" to be thongs and speedos (planning on a beach wedding). I really don't want to see our relatives in thongs and speedos!

So many little flashes of nightmares. That's the ones I remember!
Reply:I didn't have any nightmares before my wedding, but my friends had plenty of them for me! Of course they didn't tell me about them until after the wedding so I wouldn't freak out. :)

Reply:So far, i only had one crazy dream. I dreamed that five minutes before the ceremony was to begin, the groom was not at the alter.He was late and I had to stand at the altar and watch him walk down the aisle. I woke up and laughed so hard! Lately, I do not dsream as much as I am so tired from planning a wedding and working at the same time.

Say a prayer for us brides. We need it.
Reply:YES! We just bought a house and are fixing it up... we want to have most of the work done before we are married. I keep having these horrible dreams that after we are married, he sells the house and we move to this horrible places. One was a flat in Japan and it was in a really bad neighborhood and then another one was a gaint haunted house... and then another one was a run down hotel!! I am from Philly- so the Japan one is a real stretch!! I guess it just our minds trying to resolve the stress in our sleep!!
Reply:I think this is pretty normal,I know when my sister got married 6mths ago,Like two weeks before the wedding she didn't sleep much at all she would wake up yelling at everyone at the wedding,There is a lot of pressure on the bride and she does all the work for the wedding while the soon to be husband sits back and waits for his bachelor party.So I would suggest to you to try and clear your mind before bed,I know that is hard to do,Maybe take a relaxing bath and if you like herbal tea drink a warm glass before bed,or a glass of wine,It might help.
Reply:Yes,its hilarious, I keep dreaming that my wedding is the next day and nothing is ready and my dress doesn't fit. Or that I woke up late and had no time to get ready so I end up getting married in jeans(which is beyond silly, given that my wedding is at 5pm). I've also dreamed different variations of the following: that the store changed my dress and instead of white it is gold with an awful black sash around the middle, or that my mom showed the dress to my boyfriend and I was enraged.

It's good to know that I'm not the only one going nuts.
Reply:You're not the only one! I've been having those dreams since I got engaged last year. They always center around the dress....it doesn't fit,,,,it's horribly ugly...the store closes and I can't get the dress...and a million variations there of. It's becoming more frequent now actually, since I still haven't picked a dress and I'm getting married in July! It's just all of our "keeping it calm and cool" exteriors letting our true "oh my God I'm getting MARRIED!!" neurosis coming out to play in our dreams
Reply:Oh my gosh yes! I don't know why this is...I've had weirdo wedding dreams all my life and in all of them stuff goes horribly wrong. And it's not like i'm nervous or don't want to get married either. I think it's just a normal thing that we brides go through. I've had some REALLY funny ones. I had one this week actually. I have about 4 months until my wedding (April 21) but in my dream the wedding was this week and i hadn't gotten anything done except for what i've really gotten done now 4 months before. So in my dream the wedding was that day and i hadn't gotten the menu worked out with my catorer or my dress fitted and lots of other stuff and i was freaking OUT! Just enjoy the laughs and don't take the dreams literally! (I hope all of these dreams don't make me parinoid on the actual day though. I don't want to be nervous or stress about the little stuff)

4. Florist (for my boquet)

5. Salon (for hair and makeup)

6. What's the best/nicest hotel on Guam from your experience with the nicest ocean view rooms and most helpful staff in wedding planning?

Getting married in Guam in a year - need help from someone familiar w/ the island in finding these vendors!?
My suggestion...if possible work with a wedding planner/co-ordinator who specializes in destination weddings. They may have contacts and can help with any of the legal issues (such as you will need a marriage license..many places have time frames the work must be submitted by). You may also want to consider finding a wedding co-ordinator in Gaum to handle some of the foot work for you.

Barring that, start doing online research. I would also go to the major bridal sites and post there.

And, is you are military or marrying military, there are military stationed in Gaum. If you are marrying a military person, you will be able to get married in the base chapel, use the O or enlisted club (if there is one) for a reception. The commisary should be able to do a small cake (if not to ornate) . If not, there are almost always military spouses on every base who do formal cakes and do hair and makeup from their homes. You may even be able to find a photographer this way!

Anyone ever have any nightmares or weird dreams about your wedding?

I had a dream last night that I forgot my wedding date and then last min was told I had to get ready. So I was freaking out that I booked everything on the wrong date and my dress wasn't altered!! I was calling the florist and freaked out because she was closed..... I woke myself up in a panic!

Anyone else having any strange dreams?

Anyone ever have any nightmares or weird dreams about your wedding?
I had CRAZY ones!

One ended up being partially true, My aunt/hair stylist for my entire life didn't show up to do my hair for the wedding in my dream and I had to do it myself and my hubby wouldn't leave me alone so I could get ready! I say true because not long after I had that nightmare I found out her son was in a competition in arizona the week of my wedding and it was gonna be CLOSE with them getting back in time, so I had to find someone else to do it! I got that booked, except the lady I booked acted like I was crazy for wanting a practice run (keep in mind this woman had never touched my hair!) so I cancelled her then found someone else, all was good for a month or 2, then she called and cancelled on me b/c she had to go to a hair show! I ended up with my mothers cousin who also does hair and she was soooo great, came and did everyones at the church adn didn't even charge me for mine and my moms! it all worked out in the end but it was a little creepy!

Not all my dreams came true tho, I had a dream that my florsists baby got sick and she dropped all the flowers at my house (not arranged, in buckets) and told me she had to go to the hospital, she couldn't do them! CRAZY! Not to mention about 400 other ones that kept me from sleeping for months before the wedding!
Reply:I've had a few. In one, I was going to someone else's wedding with my fiances family and the day before the bride dicided she didnt want to get married. My future father-in-law, being as thrifty as always decided since my fiance and I were already engaged we should just use all their vendors and such and get married the next day in place of the other couple. To save even more money, he decided my finace and his whole family would sleep in the curch that night instead of getting hotel rooms. They all slept in their own pew that night and I had to go and wake them all up the day of the wedding because there was no outlet for an alarm clock in the sanctuary.

Isnt it funny how you remember little details in yoru dreams?
Reply:i think we all go through that, i think it is the stress of planning a wedding and trying not to forget anything that you need for that day.

i had dreams that i go to the chapel and i didnt have rings or a marriage liceance and that we didnt have our maid of honour and best man because we forgot to tell them that was there role. too funny, it will be fine and everything will pass. no wedding is perfect but it will be great.
Reply:My evil sis in law objected when the preacher asked for them.

It's normal Bubbles, you're stressed out this, and your dreams are your subconscious way of getting out the stress. I would expect to have more and even crazier dreams the closer you get to the wedding. It's just all the subconscious fears you have of what could possibly go wrong. Hang in there, and when you wake up, just remind yourself "it's only a dream."

Reply:Four weeks before my first daughter was married I woke up terrified. I had dreamt my teeth were extremely buck, it was 2 days before the wedding and I knew there was nothing I could do about it in that short of time. Had the dream for about a week.
Reply:I think your dream simply means that you're a little nervous about making such a big change in your life. You are closing one chapter and starting a brand new, monumental one.

Also, certain elements of your dream are telling you that you only have a limited amount of control over your wedding day. You need to trust the caterer, florist, seamstress, etc and just focus on being the beautiful, beaming bride. I was just as anxious as you before I got married three years ago, and everything came together just fine!
Reply:Nope. Not a one. Then again, I wasn't all that concerned about the wedding. It's one day %26amp; what happens, happens. I was taking more time preparing for my marriage.
Reply:My marriage was a nightmare does that count? You are supposed to be having fun right now not having nightmares. Go to your doctor and ask him to give you something for anxiety.
Reply:I did (got married 7years ago). You are describing classic anxiety dreams. Just keep telling yourself you don't have control over everything. The important part is you and your fiance get married and start the marriage off right.

(BTW- we actually had a tornado warning that evacuated our rehearsal dinner to the basement of the hotel. We actually had a woodsman drop a tree on the power line to the reception hall and dinner was late by 1 hour because they couldn't cook the food. The power came back on 15 minutes after my host and hostess arrived to the reception hall and the hall didn't have a contingency plan to cook us dinner. My host and hostess took care of everything and told us about 30 minutes after we arrived. We received extra appetizers for free to help the guests not be famished. It allowed us to mingle before dinner! The important part worked great- the ceremony! That is all that mattered.)

Reply:Yes, I've had one as well. I dreamt that for some reason our families wanted to have the reception first, and my fiance left in the middle. Then, I realized that we had totally missed the time we had scheduled for the church. It also dawned on me that we didn't meet with the pastor like we discussed to do premarriage counselling.

I am having difficulties finding a florist for my wedding in Wimborne, Dorset. Most of them are very unreliable, not getting back to me on quotes and also missing appointments! Others are just too expensive! I want a country style wedding with lots of flowers but am having great difficulty with this. Reply:Unfortunatly, I am not from that area and therefore do not know of any florists. Fortunatly I do have 7 large large flower arrangements with the vases. They are artificial but i used them at my wedding and no one even knew they were fake! :) I can send you some pictures if youd like! I'm getting married in late October and I'm trying to decide what type of flowers I want. My colors are black and hot pink and white. Can you get any type of flower from a florist in fall or does it have to be in season? I was hoping for tulips.

Also, any ideas on any hot pink flowers that would look good in wedding bouquets?

Is the McCartney rose easy to get a hold of? Ever seen it in a florist shop?

For a fall wedding tulips will not be available, or if they were they would be VERY expensive.

One of the greatest hot pink flowers is a stargazers lily. There are a lot of hot pink roses, the McCartney is a garden rose and hasn't been done as a florist rose.

White calla lilies are great.

Reply:I would talk to your florist she should be able to get you any flower you want. You could also use silk in your bridesmaids, and grooms men, and family members. and use fresh in your arrangement. Some good silks look as good as fresh. Your florist may even be able to help you there. Or check out books at the library for ideas, and hit up Hobby Lobby, Michael's or any stores like that, they usually have people that make up arrangements, and they could help you also. Never heard of a McCartney rose. Congrats by the way!

Reply:You can *usually* get any type of flower from an upper end florist. You will pay a premium for the tulips in fall though. They will have to import them. For a specific variety of rose I would think you would need to go to a high end florists who deals with specialty flowers. When I asked my florist for a specific rose variety they gave me the run around. They ended up dying white roses to the shade I wanted from the sterling rose and all was well!

Hi all! I am needing some serious help! I originally had chosen my Sept. 1st wedding colors as navy and silver. Now that I am checking into florists I am starting to get a little worried. The flowers I wanted are super expensive! So I am wanting to change the flowers to gerbera daisies. I want to do lots of different colors of them which I think will be beautiful!

So, now I am going to change the bridesmaid dresses to a different color since the navy doesn't really match. I need to hurry because they are going to order them in 2 weeks.

What color do you think will look good with those flowers? This is my first planning of a wedding and it is getting very stressful!!!

Oh, also the girls all said they are good with any color other than orange or yellow! Thanks so much for any help!!

I saw this in a magazine and I don't remember which one but, anyways each of the bridesmaids are wearing a different color dress, same style but different colors. It looked so pretty with their bouquets of different colored flowers! And the grooms men wore black tuxes with black vests with the same color tie as the girl's dress they were standing with. It looked awsome! If I hadn't already gone so far with my colors I would have done this! best of luck with your choices!
Reply:I was in a wedding where we wore navy blue and carried bouquets that were mostly white, blue, and purple, and yellow, all of which matched the navy. Navys kind of neutral, it matched anything. Varied coloured flowers with navy sounds very chic and pretty. I wouldn't change the colors.
Reply:Red would be a perfect color if you're going to use warmer, brighter colors of gerberas. I'd suggest going to red and gold instead of the blue and silver.

Reply:I would change the flowers not the gowns. You should have the wedding colors that you want. Gerbera daisies come a a gazillion colors so I would think you would be able to find a color to go with navy. Alstroemerias are really inexpensive and would look fabulous with navy.
Reply:Gerberas are beautiful flowers, very funky looking I think. And I think navy would still look beautiful against the multi-coloured flowers, take a sample of navy material with you and hold it against the flower heads. Otherwise I would go natural and stick to cream colours.

Reply:i used gerbers as my main flower in my wedding. it was beautiful and fun. i used pink, yellow, and orange daisies for all the girls bouquets. the junior bridesmaid wore a soft purple dress, and the bridesmaids wore a soft pink dress. everyone loved it!

only advice with the gerbers though - don't use them on the guy's tuxes because it looks like a clown. i went with roses for those.

i know the girls said no orange or yellow, but in a soft shade they would be just fine. don't go with bright dresses.

you could still stick with navy and silver dresses too, but you would have to do a lot of white daisies.

They definitely should. Ask them when they plan to deliver them as well, so that you can tell both places when to expect the delivery, so that there is someone there to accept them and get them set up. You don't want the florist standing outside of your reception hall with your beautiful flowers wilting beause there wasn't anyone there to open the building/room up!

Depends on your city and the florist.

For our wedding, everything was delivered to my mom's home, then we had family members take the flowers. The arrangements for the church had to later be transported to the reception site anyway.

I am interested in wearing a fresh flower or flowers in my hair for a wedding (instead of the veil thing), but how do you get them to stay put? Do florists do flower hair pieces?

Flowers is the hair may be worn several ways.

If the flowers are to be scattered in your hair, I would talk to your hair stylist. Based on what you plan to do with your hair would determine what type of flower or how many you will want in your hair. If you want a wreath, crown, or mini corsage, again, first determine how you are wearing your hair. The florist could attach the flowers to a comb that your hair stylist could put in your hair. The flowers could then be secured by bobby pins.

I would decide how I am wearing my hair first. Then you need to work with both florist and stylist.

I also suggest if you plan on an orchid, or gardenia, or another type flower, and your day will be long from first pictures to evening reception, you might want to order two,

one may be wilted or trashed by all the hugging. You will be able to freshen your look before your reception.

Anyone know where I can find different contracts that I can use as a wedding planner? As a planner new to the business, I'm finding that some vendors don't have contracts and are looking to me to provide them with one. I would write one myself but i don't want anything left out or any mistakes to be made causing issues. I need sample contracts for caterers, bakers, florists, wedding sites, photographers and anything else that would need to be contracted.

Also, anyone know where I can find sample budget worksheets for events and weddings? I'd also like to find a worksheet of some sort to help me figure out floor plans for receptions.

Reply:The same as you would start any business, but if you are marketing to a specific niche you will likely gain a reputation faster as a specialist. Just make sure you do all of your homework and know all of the differences between first and second weddings (forgive me if that is too obvious).
Reply:Get some experience first. Either work with a wedding planner or event planner. Meet some people who will give you some exposure. Either putting your card out or giving your contact info. But the best exposure is word of mouth.

After you have a bit of experience and a portfolio, get a business license. Then create marketing (business cards, website, yellow pages). But it has to be legal first.

Also you'll have a bit of knowledge as for what florists you want to recommend. Part of hiring a wedding planner instead of doing it yourself is you have someone who knows what photographers show up and do a good job. Knows some florists who will get the job done. So that you won't end up with a flake who ends up being sued by the bride. Well right now you don't know that any more than a bride does.

Don't limit yourself to just second weddings though. No need for that.

Reply:For something stunning go for Bird of Paradise or for something romantic go for Canterbury Bells.
Reply:Dahlias are a great modern flower. Also those little white flowers that are pronounced (but not spelled) STEF-an-otis, these look great with little pearls in them!

White roses are classic and always modern.

Try a combination of these with natural green sage and some wild flowers! My was just like that and only cost $40US. because the dahlias were in season.

Reply:I like calla lilies a LOT lol. They will be the dominant flower in my bouquet with roses to accent. The white ones are the most traditionally used ones in bouquets but the colored callas are so gorgeous.

Reply:I had all white tulips and had my girls carry a mix of colored ones...beautiful, but they begin to open if they aren't in water, so try to find some water between the ceremony and reception. Also, calla lillies are "whats in" currently. Hydrangea is pretty...and if you want cheap, you only need a few to create a really full boquet. Orchids are the other one I'd suggest...they come in all kinds of colors and can be mixed and matched with a lot of different flowers. :)

It's 5 months til my wedding and we just disided to go with fresh flowers, our budget is low but everyone keeps saying you have to take care of this now. I'm clueless here, what should I ask the florist what should I have with me? how should I pick the right one? All I even know for sure that I want is for each bridesmaid to have a single flower with ribben other then that 'or even want kind of flower' i'm lost! help please?

What should I do to be really for the florist?
First off, you need to have a list of how many bouquets, boutineers, corsages, pew markers, centerpeices, and that sort of thing you will need. Its ok to not know exactly what you want for those things, but you at least need to know how many of them! Figure out what colors you want your flowers to be, if you don't have an idea of what actual flowers you want. Look around and figure out what you DON'T like, for instance if you hate baby's breath or calla lillies or something of that nature, you can tell your florist this....its at least a starting point. Look around online and see if you can find some pictures of some bouquets or arrangements you like. The best thing I can tell you is be open minded. I am a free-lance florist myself, It's kinda my weekend job, and I have been at it for years..... and when a bride comes to me and thinks she has it all figured out, down to the exact number of flowers I can put in things, they ussually end up disapointed. Florists are creative people. If you can give them a general idea, and a few definet do's and don'ts, maybe a picture or 2- things end up being a lot prettier. I have a lot of tricks up my sleeve that can make your flowers look wonderful if the bride will just let me!

as far as picking the florist, ask around your area, and go to a couple and talk with them, get some prices, look at their work, see if its what you like. Ask them things like will delivery be included, or will you have to come pick them up that day. Some may be willing to go to your site with you and help you decide how to decorate (I do, others won't just depends) Ask them how may weddings they have done, and will their be any other weddings they will be doing at the same time as yours (when I actually worked as a florist, sometimes we would take on several and I would end up fried and my work would suffer.) If they seem to be railroading you into something they want, not what you want, then don't stand for it...this is your day, and a lot of them will think they know your day better then you do, and thats not fair and you should move on. Reply:First you should remember is try not to look clueless and do a little research before going there. There are sites with wedding bouquets and decorations, just google it and you will get color %26amp; flower ideas. So, check it out a little bit and then visit two florists (I think more will be confusing ). You may even print out the bouquet/decoration you liked and ask how much it will cost you. You could even tell them your budget.

Some weddings have church/town hall and reception room decoration, two brides bouquets (a simple one to throw %26amp; one to keep), flowers for the bridesmaids, rose petals for the flower girls etc You don't have to have all those just decide before going to the florist because once you go clueless they will present everything as essential to have.

Another even greater idea would be to ask a friend to help you with the research/ideas.

Reply:Ask to see their books. All good florists have photo books not only of what they can do, but of weddings they have actually done the flowers for. Make a list of all the people who need flowers (bridesmaids, groomsmen, MOB, MOG, grandmothers, etc.) and of any flowers you want for the church. Talk to the florist about your ideas and budget and see what they suggest. A single flower for the bridesmaids could be a calla lily, a gerbera daisy (which may even match or compliment the color well), a rose, or something else that meets budget and taste. Get a quote in writing and shop around. After you talk to several florists you will have a better idea of who you like.
Reply:Well Roses and Daisies are the cheapest flowers cause they're always in season.

Orchids and Lillies are normally more money since they're exhotic!

Ask your florist where they get their flowers from,and if they come to site and deliver. They also charge for other materials they use like wire and styrofoam so make sure they dont overcharge there!

Some florists will over-charge dependiong on what kind of car they see you drive up in and what your engagment ring looks like too! I know it sounds bad but it does happen.

...Take somebody with you when you go to your appointments so they can tell you if youre being ripped off!

Reply:Hi. It all depends on where you live and what kind of flowers you want. But, yes, that is about right (even on the low end.)

Brides bouquet = $100 (usually....but can be MUCH higher)

Bridesmaids bouquets:

~ 4 @ $35/each (which would be cheap) = $140

7 boutonnieres @ $12/each = $84

2 corsages @ $15/each = $30

All of this totals $354, plus there would be tax. Again, this is a very rough estimate based on what I paid for my daughter-in-laws flowers 2 years ago!

Go to a few florists and get estimates. That is their business!

Tell them what your budget is and get ideas of what kinds of flowers you can get within your budget.
Reply:We paid around $750 for a bride's bouquet, the MOH bouquet, 6 corsages, 5 boutonnières and two moderately-sized arrangements for decoration. $375 sounds about right for what you list above and maybe even a little cheap to me. Ours was similar to your package, but with two large centerpieces added (we used at church, then at reception) and it was close to 800. Our bouquets were of a variety of flowers. Corsages were mini carns.

I'm getting married in May and have an appointment with my florist next week. She wants me to have an idea of what I want for arrangements and such, but I'm not quite sure what I need, other than the obvious boquets and boutineers. How many arrangements are typical? I'm just not sure where to start because I've never been one to pay attention to those type of things!

Everyone is giving you good advice, you need to know who gets flowers, as well as start thinking of where you want flowers (don't forget your cake). As equally important though is to know what kind of flowers you DO NOT want. Even if you don't have anything definite in mind of what you do want. It's all a matter of taste - I told my florist if I say a daisy or carnation she was doing them all over again! - but that's just me, you may think differently and that's alright. Go to Google Images and search for wedding flowers and you'll have tons of ideas you can print out to take with you of both things you like and dislike.

Reply:Hi. Don't worry....that is their business! They are willing to work with you. I think what she means is...perhaps cut out and bring in some pictures of bouquets that you like either from the computer or from a bridal magazine. Look through things and get an idea. Also, she will want to know your colors, etc. They will ask you all that at the meeting.

Go in with some ideas as far as pictures and what you want to spend. Then they will give you a quote and you can go from there! It all depends on what you want to spend. How many corsages/boutonnieres you need, etc. Don't worry about that now....they have a form and will ask you all those questions at the meeting. For my son's wedding, I went with my daughter-in-law and we had a couple meetings with the florist and also a few phone calls and emails changing and adding.

Reply:You can have as many or as few flower arrangements as you like and can afford. The bouquets are a popular choice and then button hole flowers for the guys and flowers for the Mother of the Bride and Mother of the Groom can be matched. You can have flowers in the church or down the aisle of where the ceremony is to be held. Those same flowers can be relocated to the reception location to save money. Personally we only had bouquets and button holes and flowers for the Mums. They look terrific in photos. I didn't have any other arrangements. My tastes are simple. Reply:You and each of your bridesmaids needs a boquet. All the groomsmen need a boutineer. It is nice to give the fathers of the bride and groom one too, and give the mothers a corsage. Then you will need to consider if you want flowers for decor during the ceremony on the aisles or at the altar. And most people use flowers for centerpieces, so how ever many tables your reception will have.
Reply:You will obviously need the boquets for you and all of your girls in the wedding and boutineers for all of the men. The mothers of both the bride and groom should have either a flowers to pin on their dress (slightly different from the style of the men) or they should have flowers on their wrist (corsage) The fathers of the bride and groom should also have a boutineer. You may want to think about having a smaller version of your boquet to throw at your reception so you may save yours to preserve if you choose.

Ask what flowers will be in season (will help cut costs) The other thing is that you need to know your color scheme. When I picked out flowers, my florists was SO helpful. Reply:my florist walked me through everything...I had NO idea what I wanted and left feeling very confident and excited with my decision...you will need the bouquets (remember if you are doing a toss to have them do a "fake" one too), boutineers, coursages for the mothers, pedals for the flower girls, (my florist is doing a head thing for the flower girls), flowers for the cake table...centerpieces...and any things that you will want to decorate...some people also do florals for the aisle.

You can do as little or as much as you wish. I was on a budget and my bridesmaids carried one long stem rose. I have also worked 4 years as a florist and you have the say in what you want. You won't be screwed, they want to help and will work with you no matter your budget.
Reply:Do contact a few florists or look on-line to see what flowers are in season. This helps to keep costs down. If there is a Farmer's Market in your area start going a few months before your wedding . Find a vendor you like. In our area there are a lot of flower peddlers that have beautiful bouquets for about $8.00 %26amp; that is for the most extravagant flowers and they are already arranged. Buy some vases check out the dollar store and less expensive stores like Target. Just keep in mind that this is something that will be thrown away or given to your guests to enjoy or perhaps given to a nursing home.

Reply:Roses and orchids are expensive, carnations and daisies usually aren't. Keep it all simple, if it's a church wedding, you'll need something for the alter, but usually you can transfer those flowers to your reception site, if you like.....

Check into silk flowers too, you may know someone that can do your flowers up for you, buying flowers from a hobby store or a discount store.....

Reply:Ok this is just my opinion, but I have always thought lilies were more tasteful for a wedding than roses. They are less common and look very nice in an arrangement. Reply:ive heard (other than vday) roses are the least expensive for weddings. i can't say for sure, i meet with my 1st florist tomorrow. i'm going to at least 3, and i would recommend that. one being a grocey store. my friend had her flowers done at a grocery store, and they were SO beautiful and the price was good. you need some ceremony arrangements- maybe 2. flowers for you and attendants, parents, ushers, people who do readings. you don't need flowers on your cake table (some people have a flowers arch). you don't NEED flowers on pews, you can use bows! some churches already have these. also, daises are inexpensive and pretty. you don't nee flowers for centerpieces at reception, either, there are plenty of less expensive alternatives. p.s. if you know someone who can arrange flowers, you can buy 100 stems of roses from costco for like $85!!
Reply:im not sure where you are but im from sydney australia and i paid $990.00 for my flowers.

i have a large bouquet of white lillies and red roses and my maid of honour and 2 bridesmaids had small bouquets made up of red and white roses. (their dresses were red).

i also received a tiny basket of red and white roses for the flower girl to hold as well as a hair piece made up of the same roses to go around her hair.

i got 6 botton hole flower things (forgot what they are called!!!) for my hubby, best man and 2 grooms men, the page boy and my fater inlaw and a corsage for my mum.

they also had 3 HUGE flower displays at the church and a flower arrangement on every second pew of the church along the aisle.

i thought all that was pretty cheap!!!!!

the reception place looked after the table arragements which was included in their costs.

Reply:I joined weight watchers, I don't want to lose a million pounds, but I could stand to lose a few to feel comfortable wearing all white in front of 200 people. I lost 7.5 pounds my first week (I am only on week 2) and it's SO easy. Plus it teaches you how to eat healthy and in moderation, not just some crazy fad diet.

Oh, white strips work quite well if you use them right :)

Reply:I hear you. It's a lot. I continued my work out routine. I went to a day spa the day before for a mani and pedi. I had my hair done the day of the wedding. I picked up my gown, shoes, accessories, etc. a week before the wedding. I bought another dress to change into if my wedding gown got to be too cumbersome. (It didn't. I kept my wedding gown on the whole afternoon/night.) I did my own make up. I did change my face cleaning routine. I saw an article in Marie Claire that offered great advice. I started that about 6 weeks before the wedding. I got great results from the advice.

Amanda Nicole: You should be going to the gym 3 to 4 times a week to maintain/tone up. You won't see much results from once a week. It's not good for your health either. Go more often.

When you buy (for example) enough toilet paper for over 5 years of personal use, you show the wholesaler your merchant license, which is document proof that you intend to resell the items you had bought, with a markup to reflect storage cost, administration, and a reasonable profit margin. Your merchant's license entitles you not to be charged sales tax. If you're not buying a huge quantity, and don't hold a merchant retailer's license, you don't qualify for wholesale prices. If you have a Costco membership store in your area, and apply for wholesaler discount, they're going to ask you to produce your business license, which is document proof you intend to use your purchases, either for resale to the general consumer, or to replenish your business raw materials consumables. Reply:well, let me start off by saying CONGRATULATIONS... second, my advice would be to but one of those 'wedding planing books' they are very helpful, my fiance (we're getting married on Aug 08, 2008) and i bought one of those and man are they handy, we got ours at Barnes and Nobles, i don't remember how much it was, but to tell you the truth i think it was worth it, (i think it was like $30 or so, so it wasn't too bad, specially for the insight that's been able to provide) and many of them have an offer that instead of paying $99 you pay like $14 and you can create your own wedding website (it's got different 'themes' and different little things that you can do) the company (i believe) it's called "WEDDING SOLUTIONS". My fiance and i found it to be very helpful, and sounds like you already have alot of things down, but having one of those organizers or planner doesn't hurt. well good luck.

I recently had a wonderful experience with a banquet that I hosted at the Crowne Plaza. The prices are very reasonable and they have an excellent banquet manager that can refer you to florists, photographers, limos services, etc. Good luck!

One word of advice, try to schuedule your wedding around a time where there won't be any conventions in town. Call the hotel and ask...they'll tell you.

Reply:The previous posting by the travel agent had some great suggestions. You will need a car if you decide to see those sites but please don't plan on having a car in Palermo and try to get rid of it before you get to Palermo. We got so lost in Palermo, I think we passed the same point 3 times in the same direction. And parking is a nightmare -- it reminds me of bumper cars and you can't count the number of dings and dents on cars as there are too many.

About a week to ten days if you want to see all that Sicily offers.

And there are many cultures who left influences here -- the Greeks, the Moors, the Normans (mother-in-law was Sicilian and is blond hair, blue eyes, light to white skin).

Reply:I would not plan a wedding out of the US without some help. There are to many questions that you can't arrange at that distance. I love your choice of location especially in May. The weather is perfect and just getting warm.

Call me. I would love to visit Italy again as an adult. I really am a professional destination wedding planner. I usually travel with my brides so that we make sure that nothing goes wrong. I have never just handed a wedding to someone that I did not know. Especially in another country. There are great locations all over the countryside. I have a call into the US consulate to check and see if a wedding performed in Italy is considered valid in the US. We have agreements with some countries but not most.

We would just need to talk and see what you want and work with your budget.

Reply:you can save money by using some silk/latex flowers. especially for flowers that aren't important like ontop of the cake. also for centrepieces. get a vase and put flowers in it and then fill up with water to the top and float a little candle on top. nobody will know they aren't real flowers because they can't touch them. and artificial flowers can be better for the male button holes because people are always brushing up to hug them and the petals can get ratty. check out the artificial flowers on ebay

Reply:We are getting married in June and our budget is 20,250. But this includes very detailed floral centerpieces. It ended up being about 20% of our budget. It depends greatly on who you use. For your budget you could probably go to a nice wholesale flower shop and make your own boquets with your bridesmaids the night before and they would be a lot cheaper and probably just as nice if not better.
Reply:It depends on how many bridesmaids, centerpieces, decorations for the church, etc. If you look at some florist websites (like ftd.com) you can get an idea of what florists charge (a lot).

I bought flowers (roses and calla lilies) from a wholesale florist and paid less than half of what a florist would charge. Of course you or your planner or some creative person you know will have to make the bouquets but so what? You will save a lot of money.

Reply:Well. It depends what you need flowers for. I spent about $1,500 in flowers. That was for my bouquet, 6 bridesmaid bouquets, flower girl flowers, boutenerries for all the guys, dads, and grandfathers. Flower for the moms and grandmoms and flowers for the church along with bows for the pews. We didn't have flowers for centerpieces are the reception.

Also, what kind of flowers you want. Some flowers are very expensive. One of my friends spent close to 5,000 for her flowers for her wedding.

Find a Florist that will work within your budget, that will find flowers that are pretty and will look nice, but aren't alot of money! You would be surprised of the types of cheaper flowers there are out there, that look great! I really don't think there is a "normal" with flowers for a wedding.

We are getting married in northeast Mass and spending $675 for the photographer (he's out of boston), 0 for florist because I am going to use silk flowers instead of spending $1000 on flowers that will die before I even get back from my honeymoon so I expect to spend 100-250 at Michaels or AC Moore and we got 2 limos (one larger for the wedding party) for a couple hundred (exact price tbd). We used craigslist to find the photographer and videographer and I wish we could have done that for everything! It was great. People just contacted us with tons of deals but we are getting married in march which is somewhat slow for weddings.
Reply:The national average is around 22k...however, if you live in a large city (philly, DC, boston, miami) things are going to be more like 25k+...if you live in a small town, then things are going to be a little cheaper.

Reply:I am curently planning my wedding and things are definatly not cheap. I live in Canada though so my estimations are based on what i've found in Canadian prices. I'm expecting to pay no more than $200 at the florist because i'm not doing any fancy bouquets or decorating the church or anything. I'm just having a small bouquet for myself and each bridesmaid is holding a single flower. The guys will have boutieniers and the flower girls will probably have a tiny bouquet as well. You need to shop around for the best deal based on the type of flowers and sizes of bouquets you want.

I looked at lots of photographers and most had their lowest package at over $1000. The cheapest i found was around $800 for a very basic package with not many pictures. It's crazy. Limos are also insane. All limo companies i found have wedding packages based on hours of service. The cheapest i have found is about $699 for 5 hours. And i think thats only one limo with a tuxedo driver. They all come with red carpets and champagne and that type of thing.

On average i would say weddings cost about $20,000 but depending on what you want, your location, the size of your party, and the number of guests, it can cost much more or much less. Mine looks like it won't be more than $10,000.

I insist on great customer service. When I call them, I expect a call back within a day. I know a lot of brides have to deal with vendors who aren't good at communicating, but this is something I refuse to put up with. You should never have to chase down a vendor about your event.

Also, vendors must be upfront with all costs. Weddings are expensive and hidden costs are unacceptable.
Reply:There are several important questions to ask yourself with wedding photography.

Do we like his/her book?

The "book" is a collection of the photographer's best work. If they don't have one available, it means the person is severely unorganized or just full of it -- neither of which you want. Pay attention to whether the photos have too much clutter in the background, poor lighting (washed out pics where small details are blurred), the ability of the photographer to detect sensitivity in capturing people's emotions etc.

Do we like a wedding album that she/he created?

You'll get a feel for the photographers sense of style. If the pictures are very traditional, photojournalistic (instead of quietly posing for pictures, this photographer will quietly buzz around you getting pictures of people and the action going on) or a combination of both.

Do we get good vibes?

Is the person excited by your vision when you describe it? When suggestions are made, does the photographer explain them in a clear and respectful way? Rude or timid? In order to get the best photos, go with a hot short who has firm grasph of social graces byt is assertive enough to go out hunting for great images and puts you at ease.

Here are some more helpful hints:

- Make sure the photographer you've seen will be the one to show up at your wedding. Larger photo studios have several photographers on their roster.

- Talk about how many rolls of film your photographer will shoot and how many proofs (sample developed pictures) you'll choose from and how many prints will be in your final package.

- Determine a price range based on the number of prints you'll want and how many albums you'll need.

- You would have discussed your vision together and they have agreed on what you want. A professional would also offer suggestions of good things you may not have thought of, but ultimately you get to call the shots.

- You have a legally binding contract with the person or company that includes how much you are paying and also that they are supposed to deliver on what they promised.

- For many vendors, if they've worked before with your venue or are one of the venue's "preferred vendors" that is a huge bonus. There may be a discount associated, they already know the people and the place, and you will have fewer problems.

What type of flowers are used if your doing a winter theme in a wedding?
amaryllis are popular. i think white hydrangeas would be lovely, they are like snowballs.

for our winter wedding, i used white and green dendrobium orchids, white roses and black calla liles. it wasn't a winter theme though.

One of the winter weddings I did Had the bride wearing a white velvet hooded dress, the most beautiful gown I have ever seen, She wore short white leather gloves and carried a fur muff on which were placed a spray of white orchids mixed with tiny gold leaves and interspersed with tiny gold Christmas lights. The brides maids wore Christmas red velvet dresses and carried white fur muffs on which were placed red poinsettia. It was an evening wedding, therefore formal The men wore white tie and tails with sprays of Christmas holly in their lapels trimmed with pine. The Church was decorated with candles and large baskets of poinsettias and Christmas holly. I've done quite a few weddings but that was one of the most beautiful and luxurious I had done.

Reply:I'm not exactly sure what flowers are most prominent in the winter, but I WOULD NOT recommend roses. They are very rare to find in the winter, and if you can find them, they will be extremely pricey. They usually die off after the first frost of the year, so I would stick with a flower that thrives most in winter. Definitely a red color. That would look beautiful.

Just looking for some ideas as party favors for people at the reception. We want something cute and hopefully white and blue, really any kind of blue. We are having flowers everywhere. My mother is a florist so the decorating is going to be in almost all flowers.

What are some ideas for party favors for a wedding reception?
Here are a few suggestions for you:

1. Lottery tickets in a blue organza bag

2. Some sort of sea salt and herb recipe in a small blue bottle. You can usually buy the bottles in bulk and that will save you a ton of money.

3. If mom is a florist, then you could easily do small potted orchids.

I went on the Martha Stewart wedding site, and the first thing that I saw was a beautiful white and blue cake. But check out her ideas for favors. Also one of my favortite sites, The Knot. Both sites are below.

They both have big selections these days...

Reply:Most people like candles, which are inexpensive and come in a variety of styles; you can easily customize the outside of votive holders. You can also use a votive holder as a container for candy (M%26amp;Ms come in designer colors) or a small vase for a floating flower. You can make a donation to charity on behalf of the wedding.

Just find something that represents your day and relationship. You can always personalize whatever you get with a clear sticker saying whatever you want on it.

okay..well i was wondering if i could have a black sash around my waiste on a ivory dress. ( my wedding colors are pink,red and orange...dont say anything bad, im a florist ..i trust myself lol. ) So black isnt anywhere in my wedding but i really love that look. Also, what dress type will look good on me. Im only 5'4 and weight 150lbs. (really curvy)

black %26amp; ivory go fine together. very classy. try it on it the store %26amp; see. A-line dresses are always flattering too.
Reply:Wear a dress that shows all your curves. If you want a black sash, go for it. Interior designers all say each room should have a touch of black as it grounds the room, so it's OK to add to your wedding. I imagine all the men will be in black, so black is already in the wedding.
Reply:you said that you trust yourself. if you like that look, then go for it. black goes with everything. depending on what type of bouquet your will have and how you will carry it, your flowers would look stunning against the black sash. if someone has a problem with it tell them to kiss it.

Reply:i really wouldn't do black on the ivory. i would take one of the colors that you have chosen and use that as a sash around the waist line. but if you have an a line dress (which really is flattering) then i would do it at the bottom of the dress. that way it won't draw attention the the curvy hips and bust. you could have it around the top of the dress as well if you are doing strapless.
Reply:Your size and weight isn't enough to let us know exactly what will suit you. Halter necks are always nice but there are just so many different styles and so many different body shapes - it just depends! Do you have a piccy or anything?

As far as the sash goes, could you add a black sash to the bridesmaids and maybe on the bouquets to tie it all in? I am guessing the men will be in black so I think it would go quite nicely.
Reply:I love your wedding colors! Anyway, I don't think the sash would look right unless you include black elsewhere in the wedding. Maybe tie black ribbon around the bouquet or something. I think an A-line dress would be very flattering on you. That is the type of dress I got and I have the same type of body...it makes your waist look small and I like that! This is the one I got and I am wearing a coral colored sash...

Reply:As long as the men are wearing some sort of black, your dress will match with their attire. Have you thought about the girls wearing black and white too? I had my girls wear black and white and then had very vibrant colored flowers...fushia, yallow, purple, dark pink, yellow, etc. Looked awesome.

Reply:Well, you're missing the fact that you only have ONE wedding, so make this one the one you want! It's silly to think you can have "another one" later.... what are you thinking?

Other considerations - booking someone to perform the ceremony, wedding attire for couple and attendants, readings for ceremony, decorations...

For food, go with a traditional buffet for dinner - you can choose several entrees - like a roast (usually beef is best, or pork) and turkey or ham.... or specialty entrees if that's your thing; hot veggies, assorted salads; marinated veggies, some sort of potato dish, like roasted baby potatoes; cheeses, pickles, buns; variety of desserts.

Reply:An officiant and possibly a DJ if you don't have someone to play music. A place to have your wedding. Invitations. Bridal party. License. Food depends on your time of day and theme. You could always do ham or turkey since those are generally on sale around then. A traditional family dinner type thing would be neat since it is around Christmas. You could also do comfort foods..things that make you feel warm. Best of luck.

If you have a cater are they going to provide the tableware ( dishes , forks). What about drinks? Have you orded invites? What about a dress and tux? Do you have bridemaids and groomsmen, cause you will need to get them gifts. What about the rehersal dinner, and who all is coming.
Reply:You'll want to look into an officiant and place to host the ceremony. Don't forget the small thing as well, like invitations, favors (if you plan to have them), rehersal dinner, etc.

Also, you may need to rent china, silverware, glasses, linens, chairs %26amp; tables. So keep in mind what's included when you book your halls/locations for reception %26amp; ceremony.

As far as food is concerned--what time of day you have the wedding can play a big part in what you need to serve. For an early morning affair a brunch buffett can be economical and classy. Think along the lines of quiche, fresh fruit platters, chicken salad on croissants, green salads with light dressings, an assortment of muffins. This can also be a big saver on a bar tab-bloody mary's and mimosas!

For an afternoon reception, you can consider light appetizers, or just cake and champagne/punch. An early evening cocktail hour is a great alternative as well.

What about a tapas reception? Then you can serve Sangria. mmmmm...sangria :)

Also, there are a lot of websites out there for brides that are free membership and offer checklists for planning. Try www.theknot.com or www.brides.com. You can always copy and paste the list and delete anything you're not planning on.

2.wedding night hotel (cabin about a mile from the lodge)

3.flowers(my mother used to be a florist, but i don't have the flowers ordered yet)

4.food (friend manages a restaurant, and wants to start a catering business, so she's doing for just the cost of food)

7.bridesmaids dresses (got them for $15 a piece!-they had broken zippers)

Reply:RELAX- it's your wedding!!! Things can get overwhelming- I planned my own wedding last July. Everything will be perfect as long as you have someone helping you- even just over seeing that you remember everything. The wedding itself will go by so fast and it's going to be the best day of your life!!! Set some goals- follow up a couple of months before hand! Good luck!
Reply:Dont worry. It sounds like you have a good amount done so far. The next thing I woudl do is get your dress...as some take a while to order. I bought mine in July and I'm still waiting on it!

Save the dates should go out soon, but those are pretty easy...of course you need to finish your guest list first(the biggest pain in the butt!)

I think everything else you have some time on. I'd look into rentals and the cake soon and I guess it depends on your hairdresser/makeup and how quickly they get booked up.

Don't worry though you're not as behind as you think! it will all work out great! Congrats!

the save-the-date cards should already have been sent out: usually 1 yr in advance. You can send them out NOW and they may serve their purpose, although you don't have the guest list finalized.

the invitations are usually sent out 6-8 weeks in advance

and do you have music?? a DJ???

Its too bad you don't have a friend in the "wedding planner" business . . . . . . . I would try to recruit some help, maybe your bridal party?? Matron of Honor????

Reply:Well the first thing that I would do is start shopping for your wedding gown. Most gowns take 4-6 months to order...

If you can afford it, hire a wedding coordinator. They help to take a lot of the stress off of you.

Your mom might live two hours away, but I am sure she can help by picking up the phone and calling around some places for you. You can also ask your bridesmaids to help you out with some of the details.

Who gets flowers?

I've got to start interviewing florists soon, and I'm trying to make a list of the flowers I'll need for our wedding. I've got the centerpieces and the bouquets down, but I'm not sure who all is supposed to get a boutineer or corsage. Obviously the groomsmen get boutineers and the mothers get corsages, but who else? I want to have an accurate count so I can figure out my floral budget. Thanks! Oh, and what other arranged bouquets will I need as well? I know I'll need a couple of arrangements for the altar, but what else?

Who gets flowers?
Okay!! Other than your bouquet and the centerpieces on the dinner tables, make sure you have other tables counted as well- if you are doing anything for the buffet table (if you are having one), gift table (ditto), guest book table, etc.

A few arrangements at the altar are nice, also decide if you want to have anything at the end of the pews and if so, are they going to be floral?

Dont'd forget flower petals - for the flower girls (if theyre allowed to drop them), as well as possibly having guests throw them on you (instead of rice, etc.), and possibly decorating tables with them.

For boutonnieres, corsages, and bouquets, you have obviously the bride and groom, then the groomsmen and bridesmaids, and then mothers and fathers. Some people also choose to honor grandparents with corsages/boutonnieres, or any other guests you want to distinguish, such as godparents. It is also very nice to have anyone who is doing something for you in the ceremony, like reading or singing, to have one.

Also decide on if you want flowers or some other topper on your cake.

Oh and if your flower girls arent or cant drop petals, make sure you have something for them - a mini-bouquet or a pomander ball, or something.

And decide if you are planning to throw the bouquet-you may want a smaller, less expensive "tossing" bouquet instead of using your real one if you want to keep/preserve your own.

All of this is optional-you can stick to the bare bones (wedding party and parents) or flesh it out the the rest of this, but there shouldnt be anything I didnt put on the list that is usually done. Don't forget if you want to save money or do things a little differently, you can use silk flowers instead of real ones, you can choose what types of flowers you use-different ones cost A LOT differently, you can have bridesmaids carry candles or flower girls ring bells, etc. You can also get bouquets and boutonnieres made out of swarovski crystals which are really pretty, or you could do non-floral centerpieces (like floating candles, etc). Just some ideas; good luck!!!

Reply:You'd be just as married if you had no flowers at all, so the answer is "anyone you'd to whom you'd care to make a gift of flowers." Generally the bride has some sort of bouquet (to later throw) and the groom has some sort of buttonhole blossom. Everything beyond that is really just icing on the cake. If your florist tries to tell you otherwise, tell your florist that Miss Manners says and that he/she is just trying to pad the bill.

Reply:A lot of the time bridesmaids get flowers as well. and any other who are in the wedding party like sisters brothers in laws and so forth you really need to know who is going to be part of the ceremony and what not cause they should have flowers and yes your grandparents should have one as well nieces and nephew don't really need then only if they are old enough to have one or ware one

you should also find pictures of flowers and arrangements that you like so you can show the florist what you would like to have

How many flowers should Joanna estimate she needs for this wedding?

I am just wondering how much is a good amount to tip the people who will be providing services that day. I don't want to look stupid giving them too much, or even worse - too little!

The people I have are...

D.J - There will be two of them there, I got an amazing deal on their services.

Photographer - Will be present from 5pm at the reception until 12am.

Cake Maker - This lady used to work for a high end bakery, then decided to stay home and have children, works out of her house. She is only charging me about 40% of what I was quoted at most other high end bakeries.

Florist - Do I tip the florist? Send a thank you card? Flowers? LOL ...

Limo driver - ??

Singer/Guitarist - For the wedding ceremony.

Pianist - For the wedding ceremony.

Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

Tipping is definitely optional ... but if you are pleased with the services provided, then a small tip is always nice. Florists, photographers and videographers generally don't get tipped. Other vendors, like the printer who did your invites, also do not get tipped. Most of what they are making off of your purchase is profit so a tip isn't necessary. The DJ, singers, musicians, hair and make-up should all get 5-15% of what they charged - again, if you're super pleased. If you're having a caterer, then the servers usually get $20 each or so.
Reply:Tipping people that you are paying for a service is optional, and not expected. You are already paying them a set fee for their services, so I wouldn't worry about a tip. The limo driver should probably be tipped b/c he probably diesn't own the company, so a tip for him would be nice. The DJ, photographer, florist, and cake maker aren't expecting to be tipped, so it would be optional and up to you. The singer/guitarist and pianist would depend on whether they are professionals that you are paying, or people that have volunteered, if they are friends or family members that are doing it for free, a gift, either money or something like you are giving the wedding party would be a nice gesture. Be sure and have food and drinks for them at the wedding. best wishes!
Reply:15% just like any other service industry. Obviously, don't tip if you aren't satisfied.

Anybody who will be working at the reception should also be provided with a meal and something to drink as well.

The cake maker, you can send a thank you card with the tip and a few wedding pics of the cake to use in her book if you are happy with the work. Same thing with the florist (except of the flowers).

The signer and the pianist for the ceremony, give their tip to the best man so you don't have to come back. If you like come up with some sort of signal that lets him know you weren't happy and don't want him to give the tip, although if the music is that bad I'm sure he will be able to tell on his own.

First of all, you have to have pictures. Customers want to see what kind of work that your shop is capable of doing.

Only emphasize the best of the best that you have. Our shop used a digital camera and printer to create a brochure for new brides. We then placed an ad in our local traders guide, newspaper, and radio station asking the bride to stop by the shop for a complimentary rose. We gave them the brochure and were able to have some 1 on 1 time with them.

We also gave brides who participated in this way, a 5% discount on their wedding.

Word of mouth is by far the best way to get wedding work....so do more than you are asked to do, price your wedding competitively and you will be busier than you ever thought might be possible.
Reply:take pictures of your arrangements, and have them blown up for displays in your windows, or for flyers to give each customer when visiting your shop, or make them binder size and [with plastic sheet protectors] for customers to look at for ideas...the more pictures the better. [ a good way to set up for picture to be taken is to use a black velvet clothe or another color will be nice.
Reply:The best way on a budget is to join your Chamber of Commerce. In most cases, your membership gives you a monthly ad in the news letters/ catalogs they send out. You can also print flyer's from your PC, you can save in the long run doing them yourself. Save your old ink cartridges, take them to Office Max and get free paper for doing so, and make more flyer's. You can also get ink cartridges on E-bay really really cheap.... Best of Luck....
Reply:Vistaprint.com is a great place to get some low cost brochures or flyers made up. They have templates but you can upload your own photos of your arrangements. You can distribute those yourself or have them put into the local newspaper. Do you have a website?

How much am I supposed to tip each vendor? My list (let me know if I left anything out) and services I'm getting:

Church/Priest....have set amount to give

Limo.....said "tip included" in bill; 4 hrs booked 3 limos, will use less time

DJ.....is getting a meal, booked for 6 hrs possibly 7 (TBD)

Photo....will be at bride's house, church, and reception for "formal" Not to stay past that! (do I give food?)

Video....will be there from beginning to end, getting ready to packing up. Will be provided with a meal. Travelling approx. 30 miles

Weddings cost so much these days, and its kind of you to want to tip everyone as is fit....but many vendors sneak(sorry bad word) a tip in there without you really knowing.

If you answer no to any of these, there is no advice for anyone to give. If your answer is yes to all of them, I'll start with this...every situation is different. Would there be anything to make you think this isn't the first time he's done this? I'm not going to say take him back or leave him, that is completely up to you, and unfair of me to give you that kind of advice. I will say that a person who is unfaithful once is 50% more likely to be unfaithful again. Are there any kids involved? This is important. You also need to ask yourself if you would stay with him just for the kids, or for another reason. That ties in with question 1. Reply:I have never planned a wedding (yet!), so I can't offer a lot. It sounds like the major things are set.

Something I can think of are bridesmaid gifts. Most brides give necklaces or a small gift to the bridesmaids, same for the groom and his men.

I would suggest going to a library or book store and flipping through a wedding planning guide. Take a piece of paper and pen and just write down ideas you may have overlooked!

So if you can not read the chicken scratch that is on the response card you will know who it is from.

Reply:It might be a good idea to decide with your photographer what specific pictures you want to have to remember your wedding by, and it always helps to rehearse the pictures along with the wedding rehearsal. As a photographer, I know that the photography can be a hassle if you just expect it to happen. Help your photographer by knowing who needs to be in front of the camera and when. A wedding director can take care of this for you if you go over it before hand, so you can just enjoy the moment. Sounds like you've done a great job. Now relax and enjoy the ride. You're in love. You're living a dream.

My mom is starting a floral business and is doing her first wedding. She needs something to organize all of her samples of color, material, sketches, lists, dates and times, etc.....what do florists typically use.

I'm assuming you are just talking about this one wedding. She should get a 3" notebook binder, clear plastic sheet protectors and some index dividers. She can insert the fabric in the plastic sheet protectors to prevent them from soiling and to have easy access to match with ribbons etc. The dividers can separate the other information by categories ie; church, reception, bouquets, gown colors and ribbon colors. Does she have the professional wedding contract form? This should be the first page in her notebook. It will state all the pertinent information she will need to reference constantly. It will also state what she is going to be contractually obligated to do. This is VERY important. brides sometimes assume you are going to do things that you are not being paid to do. If she does not have floral industry contract yet...she must make up her own and be very specific about what she is hired to do!!! The person hireing her MUST read the contract, and when they are in agreement, they MUST sign it. There is so much more she needs to know before she goes into this full blown, but this will get her through this first wedding.
Reply:Depends on what kind of storage area she has, and what kind of shop area she has... if she needs to be portable, she will definitely want to use something she can carry easily... if she has a storefront where the bride will come to her for selection and counselling, then she can have whatever suits her for displaying the information. The craft shops all have a number of totes that would work to store information and display it for the bride and her mother or friend as she makes her selection.

For the planning effort, use a day timer, day runner or franklin planner with all of the information for the wedding written of the day of the wedding.

Using Hibiscus flowers?

Has anyone used Hibiscus in their centerpieces and/or bouquets? I'm having a really tropical wedding and Hibiscus is my favorite flower. Are they hardy enough for arrangements? I can't find them on florist websites. Anyone with any information would be super helpful. I can't find squat!!

I dreamed of having hibiscus for the longest time then the florist told me they were not an option. For one they wilt to fast after being "picked" and second they close up at night and open again in the morning, considering my wedding was in the evening that was not an option to have even the plants. Maybe you could just have the plants as decorations. Im sorry the hibiscus wont work any other way. I was just as disappointed as you are!
Reply:Awww, I love hibiscus flowers. I got this idea shot down by the florists. They said the flower does not last long enough. They did suggest silk hibiscus though. Hard to find also. Check at your local greenhouses, and ask them. An alternative would be a peony, it's another tropical flower that you can find a bit easier.
Reply:As far as my experience with hibiscus' goes (I am not a florist but have put them in arrangements before) they wilt very quickly. They really don't last long at all. The only thing I can suggest would be to have 'fake' ones... they can still look quite nice.

I had 4 bridesmaids and 3 jr bridesmaids, and I thought that having 7 people on my side was a lot! I did the flowers for my 2nd cousins wedding this weekend, (I used to work as a florist but have gotten out of it) and she had 14. I thought that was just crazy! Not to mention it was a huge pain making that many bouquets. Her photographer said he was doing a wedding in late June where they had 32 bridesmaids and 32 groomsmen. I thought bridemaids were supposed to be your closest family and friends?! I just don't see being that close to 32 girls, lol! To each his own I suppose, what do you think?

Reply:Wow, if I had to work with and organize 32 females for my wedding I would go nuts! I had my best friend as maid of honor and my two sisters as bridesmaids and that was plenty (what with everyone having to put their two cents in on everything, it got pretty trying at times). I thought it was the perfect number for pictures though. I definitely wouldn't go any more than 4 girls on my side.
Reply:I am having 3 girls on my side and 3 guys on his. I was in a wedding where there were 7 guys and 7 girls. i thought that was almost too many. Once you got all 14 people, the bride and groom, and then the parents, it was way too many people for pictures. I think that 3-4 are good numbers for bridesmaids and groomsmen.

Besides, my fiance has two best friends he's known since like middle school, one best friend of about 4 years, and a new friend whom he really likes, so 4 seemed to be my target number so he could have all the groomsmen he wanted.

I plan on having only around 30 people at my wedding, with just three people per side in the wedding party (four/six will be kids)

Reply:lol yea those are some crazy numbers! i'm in two right now, one is just us 4 girls which has been going very very well. the other is 9 including juniors and it's been much much more complicated. so based on these experiences a lone i'm thinking 4 girls is a good number. it also depends on how far apart the girls are geographically. teh further away you all are the harder it is!
Reply:0. Yeap, I had zero. We had the best man and maid of honor... and a little flower girl and the ring bearer. I didn't want to put people through expense of a dress they will only wear once, same with guys having to rent a tux. I just invited friends to the wedding and reception and they can spend as much or as little as they like on their outfits. It was just great having them there. It was perfect.

My maid(s) of honor were my cousin (who is like my sister), and our little neighbor girl who was also like a little sister to me, the next two in line were two of my cousins who I am very, very close to and love dearly, and the last two in line were my two best friends. I think that it worked out very well. I would have liked to have one more (I had to leave one cousin out, and she was very, very hurt), but my husband didn't want 7 attendants on my side because then he would have had to have had my brother as a groomsman and he didn't want my brother to be one of his groomsmen, so, yeah. But I wish that I would have had 7, because then my other cousin could have been included. Anyways, yep. It's just whatever works for you - don't let anyone tell you - there's no set number - whatever you want to do in your heart!

Reply:We had 2 bridesmaids, 2 groomsmen and no one else! I thought that was perfect. I just don't see the point in having more than 3 or 4 max. For one, it costs more money cause you have to get gifts for all of them. Secondly, half of them won't even have anything to do (my bridesmaids really didn't have to do a whole lot at all - and since there were only 2 I can't imagine spreading their duties even thinner!). Thirdly, it's unlikely that you have that many CLOSE friends. I mean really - I had my 2 best friends and that's all we needed. My other friends didn't even make the guest list - we just had mostly family. And lastly - what a pain for organising. I mean photos and tables and all that?! Why bother!

The wedding plans are coming along smoothly, better than expected in fact! I have a best friend who is a florist and her mother is a seamstress, they have both offered to do my dress and flowers for free in lieu of a gift. I have a friend who is a professional photographer and will be doing the photos for the cost of developing the film and chef friends who have offered to oversee the catering . I am one INCREDIBLY lucky bride -to-be :). Even tough they have offered to do these amazing things for me in lieu of a gift I want to do something for them. They will all be guests at my wedding and even though they all live interstate they live close to each other and my hubby and I want to take them all out for a meal at a nice reataurant in their home town. Any other ideas?

I think a nice dinner out is a great idea.. maybe give them each a nice gift that pertains to what they are doing at your wedding....and then at the reception if you and your hubby are planning to give any kind of speech make sure you thank them and let them know how much you appreciate their help :)

Also....just as a thought for the future...if these people do this for a living be sure to tell everyone you know how amazing they are and try to help them boost their business.... recommend them to anyone you know that is geting married and share photos of your special day!!!

I would of course by them something that is dear to them that they would appreciate. Personalization is key.

Spa gift certificates for the ladies. I got a massage for a gift and it was 50 min.pure relaxation. It was great.

Make sure at your reception that you take a good picture with each one. you can have it enlarged and nicely frame for them. Now a days if you want a wedding pic you have to order from a site and pay for it. May be offer to the girls to get hair or make up done on that day with whoever is in charge of doing your work.

Ps. My friend gave me a pic of me from her wedding in the thank you card and I appreciated that she took the time to do that. Plus I loved the pic.

Reply:I say plan a picnic or bbq. And do gifts for all of them, also consider somewhere in the pprograms to offer some sort or acknowledgement, so that others can call and get their services, so your referring them people.

I would definitely take them all out for a meal or do something sweet for them. Even a thank-you card with some type of gift certificate would be great. While at a nice dinner with them, present them with a token of your appreciaition for being there for you and helping you to make your big day incredible. Try a store like "Things Remembered," where you can get resonable gift that can be engraved. You are a VERY lucky bride, and by doing even dinner and these gifts, your still getting amazing wedding gifts....enjoy them. They wouldn't have offered if they really didn't want to help, plus, you are showing appreciation just but asking what you can do for them. If I am having the groomsmen's bouts in orange roses what about the groom? Dad's? Mom's coursages? The bouquets are yellow, red %26amp; orange roses. It is a fall wedding with the dresses being chocolate. I need to meet with the florist Monday and really need help or pictures.

Is your bouquet more one color than another and a little different from the bridesmaids? Pick the color that you have most in your flowers and have your grooms boutineer be the same color.

For mom's %26amp; dad's I would pick yellow or a cream colored rose to set them apart.

this all depends on what type of flower you want groom to wear. Keep in mind that he is going to be hugged all day long. So you might want to considera strong flower, such as the rose. I would add just a bit of copper and some touches of dark blue for groom mom and fathers flowers.

Ask your florist to show you black magic roses and leonidas

alsmere gold and sari. These are all roses red a deep red leos are a chocolate brown and almere is yellow and sari's are orange. these are all strong flowers and last a long time.

Be sure that when you speak with your florist you tell them what your budget is and dont let them talk you into stuff you wont need.

make a list of everyone you want to have flowers and how much you want to spend on each. Stay away from babies breath and statice. If you must, just touches of it throughout your decorations. use wax flowers or, solidago, its a pretty yellow lil flower that works great with fall flowers.

Reply:You could choose a different flower entirely for the groom, like a single calla lilly or other elegant type, but in the same/similar orange color. That would set him apart from the others. Your other option is just to pick a different color rose to set him apart, but I don't think that looks as nice. I got married last september, here is a good tip- make sure the florist wraps the stem of the bouts in black tape instead of green. That way it blends with the tux in and looks a million times better in person and especially in photos! For the mom's coursages, I used mussy tussies because they can carry them down the aisle like a tiny bouquet and then set them down at the reception. This works so much better than the wrist or dress coursage. I would make the mussy tussies a mix of all of your colors (yellow, red, orange). Best Wishes!

Dads can have the same color as the groomsmen. Moms can have something to match their dress. If you want to stick with the wedding colors, then match the bouquets for the girls.

Ask the florist what other types of flowers are available for that time of year. You may see something else you like just as well.

Calla Lilies?

My wedding theme is pink and champagne and my flowers will be calla lilies. My florist is painting the calla lilies into some pinks, some champagne, and some will stay white to match my theme. She recently asked if i wanted to put some pink/champagne roses with calla lilies on the gazebo to match flower girl's petals. Do you think it'll look beautiful?

Fresh flowers are a great decoration for a wedding. However, if there is a budget or it increases the budget, I would say no, the calla lilies are so elegant and beautiful that they can stand on their own quite nicely.

for flowers? I originally wanted Gerbera Daisies, but I have heard so much about them wilting that now I'm not sure. My wedding is in a couple of weeks and have to meet with the florist on Monday to make the final decision. I am having fall colored roses for the men, parents and grandparents and wanted to have daisies for the girls and myself. Do you think it would look too plain with all roses, berries %26amp; leaves? The corsages and boutineers are roses-cream for the MOB, MOG, and groomsman, and a rusty orange for the groom.

My bouquet and the bridesmaids are all the same, theirs are just smaller than mine. We are using an array of flowers-roses, lilies, fresh cut herbs, ivy, and any other fall flowers my florist can find. I worked with her for a few years and she does gorgeous work, so I gave her the few specifics that I wanted and am leaving the rest to her. We are just going with fall colors, no particular one color. If you have any other questions, feel free to e-mail me. =) Congratulations on your upcoming wedding and marriage!

I would stick to just roses for the boutineers and the corsages. It's so tough, especially for the mothers, because you don't want anything to clash. Off white/ivory would be fine. Reply:I attended a July wedding in Mississippi (Hot) where the bridesmaids carried 2 long stemmed pink Gerbera daisies and the groomsmen wore one daisy on their lapel. I actually pinned most of them on. They held up throughout the wedding (pinned on about 30 minutes before for pictures). Afterwards during the reception with jackets coming off and people eating, they began to lose petals, but they had done their job by then. It was beautiful during the ceremony.

I would think for you to have a bouquet of white mums, berries, roses and daisies as the focal points would be absolutely beautiful. Your girls carrying just daisies is simple, elegant and cute. NOT CHEAP! It should be what you want, and I think it will be great! Just don't pass them out until you literally walk over to take pictures or just before the ceremony. Have fun, don't worry %26amp; be happy!

Another accent idea, but prickly- use clippings off of an American Holly tree. Also a mistletoe hanging from arbor, doorway or alter is a great conversation piece!
Reply:Wait, you are getting roses for the men and corsages, but daisies for the maids and yourself? Talk about looking cheap and odd!! Usually the flowers used for the men and the corsages relate back to the main flowers of the bridal party bouquets. If you are having daisies so should they, and no they do not make a good long lasting corsage or boutonniere because of the lack of water to them, they will wilt. If you are using roses for them then you should have roses in your bouquet as well. You could combine the daisies and roses, or add Peruvian lillies or mini callas or even fall mums with the roses.
Reply:What about chrysanthemums? They hold up really well and they come in great fall colors.

I think that I would probably make the bride's and bridesmaid's bouquets a mix of roses and mums, then use rose boutonnieres for the men. You could even mix some gerber daisies in with the bouquets, and even if they wilt a little, you'd have lots of other flowers to keep the bouquets looking fresh. The main thing is that whatever flower you use for boutonnieres, you should also have some of them in the bouquets so that they are coordinated.
Reply:I'm not engaged or anything but I've always dreamed of having a fall wedding when I do get married. I wanted to go with something a little different for my fall theme. I plan on having orange lilies and dark red roses for my flowers BUT I'm also going to add a few fall leaves into the bouquets. Not so many that it'll look like me and my bridesmaids will be carrying a handful of leaves, but enough to give it that autumn touch.

I never heard anything before about the gerberas so i am a little concerned but i have been at weddings before with them and they never showed to wilted in any noticable way.

I think go for the gerberas. the day will be over before you know it. Or go out and buy some now and watch their shelf life in person.

We are on a strict budget for our wedding and based on the quotes I've been told, we can't afford a florist. A friend of my Mother told us that we should buy real flowers in bulk online and just do the arrangements ourselves. (that's what they did at her daughters wedding) I love the idea, especially since we aren't doing that many decorations. My fiancee is afraid real flowers will be too much work since we have to care for them overnight. My question is, for those who did their own flowers, how do I know how much to order? Whether I go with silk or real I don't want to overbuy. I do have a floral book that I'm getting ideas from. Also, If it ends up being easier can I mixed silk flowers with real, or is that tacky? The bouquets and stuff will be real. Any advice would be a great help!

I only wish I had $5000 to spend on MY wedding! I'm planning an outdoor wedding for May '07 and have done all my own florals with silks. I wouldn't mix fresh and silks either. Doing your own isn't that hard and will save you alot in the end. I bought my silks from several different places, Hobby Lobby, Michael's, Dollar General and Dollar Tree. Hobby Lobby will usually have their stems on sale one week and their bunches on sale the next, both at half price. They have some beautiful silks to choose from. If you choose to buy on an off week then they always have a coupon you can use to save 40%. I bought my bouquet holder from Hobby Lobby on a week when they had all their wedding stuff for half off. Choose whatever florals you want to use and all you have to do is cut them and begin placing them in the styrofoam holder, then when you're satisfied with the look, finish it off by wrapping coordinating ribbons around the handle and then looping them thru the hole on the end to have some hanging off. You can go to multiple websites online and print off step by step directions on how to do your own, just do a search on how to.

I also made all the corsages and boutineers too, plus decorations to use thruout the wedding. I'm also decorating an arbor with tulle, red heart lights and silk garlands that will coordinate with my bridal flowers.

If I can do it, anyone can! Just have a hot glue gun, wire cutters, some wire, floral tape and a little confidence in yourself!!

Reply:I am not sure what your budget is (I have worked with very small before though) there are a few good options for silks. Dont do real because to keep them from wilting you should refrigerate them overnight and that could take alot of room up in your fridge.

Silks have come a LONG way since their conception, and you can get silks now that are almost impossible to tell from the real thing. Just be sure you get good quality.

I know a few silk florists (online) that work with budgets. If you would like their info email me.

EDIT: You can get good quality silks for less than 300, email me and I will help you cut costs if you like (For FREE). You can have a GREAT wedding on a $5000 budget (or less!)
Reply:If there is anyway you can squeeze any money out of your budget for at least your bouquet, I would highly recommend it. You say you have a book you are looking at, then look at the arm bouquets for your attendants. These would be the easiest for a novice. You really should have a florist do these also. You could choose rather inexpensive flowers, with a flashy bow with streamers. The boutonnieres and corsages you could do in silk, in advance. Check with the church about altar flowers. Some require them. I wish I had more time to help you out more,

Silk flowers are tacky , in my opinion for a wedding.

If you are really on a tight budget my suggestion is this.For your Bridal bouquet have what is known as an arm bouquet.Simply put a few stems of fresh flowers tied with ribbon. They can be kept over night in a vase of water, they dont need to be refridgerated if kept cool.same with your bridesmaids.

Bouts. and coursages have made by a florist.They can be kept in the fridge over night. Limit who gets them.

Buying flowers online that are mailed can be a huge mistake if you have never dealt with the company before.Your flowers may be damaged or your shipment late.

If you have a Costco in your area they sell mixed bouquets of flowers in the store they now also sell wedding packages online.The people that provide this service are usually wholsale growers in your area. Look at their packages online.

You can also pre order flowers from the store in some areas talk to the manager.
Reply:I wouldn't mix real and silk. Not in the same bouquet, at least. You could give your maid/matron of honor a real bouquet, and give the rest of your girls silk, though. As far as overordering, if you find silks online or whatever that you like, buy just one or 2 bushes. Chances are you local WalMart/Hobby Lobby/Michael's has the same thing for half the price. Also, I know that MOST Hobby Lobby stores have someone who designs silk bouquets. Not sure on pricing, but if you have one near you it might be worth the time to check it out. You could also google silk wedding bouquets. Most places where you order the full bouquets you can pick the type/color of flower to be used.
Reply:For decoration I only use artificial flowers, life flowers are only for bouquet boutonniere etc. sometimes people use real flower for centerpieces, which is OK and usually doesn't cost as much. Sure if you can do your own arrangement to look like the ones you see in the magazine, feel free to do so.

Yes my florist did say it is a lot of work to keep your flowers fresh for the event and it will cost you utility bills too I think, because you might not have time to arrange the flowers the day before the wedding right? means you will buy them 2 or 3 days prior then arrange them then store them with the right temperature etc..

You could always try a fuller flower like a hydrangea, the price per stem should be similar to a rose. If you want to do the single rose I would just make sure to take off all of the greenery. You could add ribbon but I don't think that would add a lot to it. If you aren't really concerned about the flowers I would suggest going to Costco or Sam's Club for the flowers, a grocery store would be fine too.
Reply:One single rose would be very beautiful, but add a sprig of delicate fern and tie the two together with a simple bow with long ends to make it more professional. You should be able to get the ribbon for the bows at a sewing supply store. The simple things are the most beautiful when it all comes down to it. Have a great day.
Reply:It sounds just fine. A nice ribbon around the stem in your wedding colors would look nice. It is your day and you shouldn't worry about anything but making you and your groom happy. If you want the bridesmaids to have 1 flower or 50 flowers its up to you. I am not sure if you are near a Safeway store, but their roses are beautiful and always 9.99 a dozen.

My mom is starting a floral business and is doing her first wedding. She needs something to organize all of her samples of color, material, sketches, lists, dates and times, etc.....what do florists typically use.

There are beautiful bridal photo albums available at stationary

stores and specialty shops. She can affix samples, photos,

names of caterers, decorators and all her sources into this.

A separate book can be kept for each wedding with all the

details and as her business grows, she'll have many sample books for reference and they'll be beautiful enough

to show future clients re floral arrangements, unique places

for weddings, costs, cakes, even available alternative

styles and themes. These can eventually be organized

according to budget so that when someone wants a lower

priced affair, she can show them what's been done before.

Okay, so most of you would not want to take the risk of ordering your flowers online due to the fear of damage in shipping. BUT! What if they arrived with a spill proof water supply attached and contained in a temp. regulated container? And to furthermore rest your worries, what if the business offered to replace the bouquet, if damaged in shipping, through another florist in your local area?

Of course shipping time would have to coordinate with your wedding time. If you get married at 8am on Saturday morning, your bouquet would be scheduled to arrive on Friday afternoon. Since some flowers are just to delicate to ship at all, the bouquete styles to choose from would containe very hardy flowers that have a longer shelf life and have year round availability. This would increase the chances that other florist in your local area would be able to fill the order quickly and easily if something did go wrong and the flowers were damaged.

I really appreciate your input!

Sounds just ok. I mean great if they are damaged they are replaced but thats almost like a "yeah they better be"--I mean if my dress was damaged when I ordered it, they would replace that too. If it happens in shipping that is your responsibility to fix, not some amazing new thing you are doing for customers.

And it actually doesn't address the original problem--most wouldn't order flowers online b/c it might be damanged in shipping. Flowers can be in a temp reguated container and still damaged. If there is a problem, the other florist fixes it. Well why didn't I order from that florist to begin with? and what if we have different definitions of "damaged". I say 40% of my flowers are wilted and you say The blooms are still on aren't they?

But me personally--I wouldn't order flowers from a florist online b/c I have a theme I am going for. I show the florist pictures of my idea, either from a magazine or whatever. For my wedding, I carried pictures of my dress and my bridesmaid's dress. I had a few ideas but needed some suggestions on how to make that work. I needed that moment of clarity where the florist shares my vision and knows what I want to complete my theme. I like to make eye contact but most importantly I want to have someone to talk to where I know we are on the same pg.

An online florist I have to know exactly what I want so I can order it, how I want it arranged, and pick from the choices. I have no ability to be unique and add something that is particular (my bouquet I added some crystals and pearls that my mother had made into flowers). What if I want it a lil smaller? And lets say this bouquet is a tad too expensive for my tight budget, I can't subsitute in a cheaper flower?

Online florist just seem like a bad idea all around if you actually care about your flowers. Now if you are just roses to snip and use as boutineers--then sure. Or if all you want is a giant sunflower for each table b/c you are going to float it in a bowl of water, sure. But not for my bouquet or my major arrangements.

I want a florist I can bond with--the same way I wanted to make sure my cake baker and my photographer were all on board with exactly what I want. Not a computer form or someone in India who couldn't care less if I was happy or not.

Getting damaged all %26amp; that is possible, that's why they have that safety net. But do you really want to, on your wedding day, worry about getting ahold of a company %26amp; having them contact a florist to remake your flowers? What if you order flowers that their local florist doesn't keep in stock in the numbers you need or the colors you need or are out of due to another event?

I just find it way too risky. I'm not sure why you like this idea so much (not trying to be rude), but if it has something to do cost check with a local florist first. My florist was fabulous, she's making more expensive items for less for me due to ordering to much. I think you should look into other options before jumping into ordering online.
Reply:If this is something you are considering, I've got some input. #1, some brides will never order from you. #2, brides who have ordered their flowers online probably would order from you. It's ok if it costs a little more, but it should be a lot less than ordering from a florist. It would be kind of like the cream of the crop for online ordering and perhaps even set a new standard. #3, the type of brides who would order from you are probably planning their wedding in a hurry or at the end of the year because that is when most florists are closed (at least around here they are). You might consider some sort of referral links to other reputable online wedding services. You may even be able to help fund the site with reciprocating agreements. But definitely check out the partners before you post. The better their references, the more referrals you may get from their site. #4, set up a booth at every bridal fair you can find. Have them shipped on the same time-schedule you would ship for a wedding and have a laptop so brides could register their email addresses for sales notices.

My inlaws wont return my mothers vase...?

My parents let my inlaws take a flower arrangement from my husband and my wedding, with the agreement that the vase that the flowers were in would be returned to my mother.

She is a florist and needs it for her next wedding. Its been 3 months now, my husband and I asked them to bring it to a family birthday party, but they didn't.

My mother has tried contacting them several times, however they don't respond. My husband isn't on good terms with his parents but at least they answer his phone calls. I think my husband should just give them a call, and let them know that its important that they let her get back the vase. My mother has offered to go get it, even if they want to leave it on the porch. What do you think we should do?

My husband thinks its awkward to ask them for it. I think that since they are ignoring everyone else, and he is the only one who they answer their phone to, its his responsibility.

Your husband needs to be a man and take responsibility. They are his parents and they have your mothers vase, if his call is the only call they pick up, then he needs to call and get the vase back regardless of what terms they're on.

She says she's doing a wedding next week, so she'll probably need it. I'll return it for you." Then he should pick it up, and walk out. When they make an excuse he can tell them he's going to see your parents the next day and is saving his parents the trouble and your mother the delay. Yes, use glycerin (glycerol, same diff).

It does mix with water.

Maybe you could make a jelly using gelatin? Won't be liquid but is fire proof and the glitter stays put. Also no mess if spilled ('cos you can't spill it).

Today i went to my florist to make a payment on my wedding flowers. I asked for a copy of my owner and all the recipts so I could have a copy for my personl reconds, and to show my mom who is helping to pay for the wedding. She said I could not recieve these things until my order is paid in full, which won't be for awhile, and then she got an attitude with me, by saying something like" If you would pay this off sooner you can get it then". I am very upset because I've been really nice to this lady. The only reason we went with this flower shop is because my finace kept her son from being beat up in high school, and we thought she would give us a good deal. My mother and I are very upset, and we are seriously considering switching to a different florist, and launching a complaint with the BBB. I was wondering if anyone had a simlar experiance like this when planning their wedding.

Personally, I would start looking for someone else. There's no reason to work with this woman, and she should be competing for your business (not scolding you because you aren't meeting her guidelines).

Any reputable business person would give you a receipt for a payment received, regardless if the payment was made in full or not. Skip the BBB complaint... my experience has been that they never do anything about it anyway. A better course of action would be to find one of those phone book review things online and give her shop an honest review based on your experience. That would hurt her more, anyway, since today that is what more people will see.
Reply:That is very strange. You need to call and ask what the big deal would be or ask to speak to a manager.

For MY personal records, I take my digital camera and take pictures of everything that is signed and of the person signing it. They think I'm crazy at times, but I refuse to get screwed out of well earned money.

Call them back and let them know you aren't happy and either need to figure out a way that suits you, or you can take your business elsewhere.

I would go back there, and basically tell her that you NEED a copy of your order and the contract that you have with their business, and that you need receipts for every payment you've made. You have every right for those things, and if you don't get them, I would seriously cancel the order, find another florist, and file a complaint with the BBB. Go back there tomorrow or Monday, ask to speak to the owner (if that's not who you've been dealing with), and tell him/her to either produce receipts and a copy of the order, or consider the order cancelled.

There are alot of businesses, who sadly, try to take advantage of brides and grooms while they're planning their weddings. You need to safeguard yourself against fraud. Documentation is your only way to do that.
Reply:Hmmm! You say the only reason you went with this florist is because you thought she would give you a good deal--not because she does good work? Do you think she knows that and is a bit offended? That you think she should be obligated to you because your fiancee' did a kindness for her son?

Perhaps that might be the reason she isn't willing to be more accommodating.

Of course, you do have a right to a written receipt for money already paid--and if you have a contract, you have a right to a copy of that, as well. But your approach might have been a bit on the heavy side and this was her way of letting you know that. After all, it seems that you are paying as you go, which is not the way it is usually done--and she is giving you that latitude. Florists prefer to have a large down payment to secure the order, and then final payment just prior to the wedding.

Business is business, so don't give her a hard time. Just because her attitude didn't meet your expectations doesn't mean that she isn't a good business person or an excellent floral designer. If you aren't happy, get your money back and go somewhere else.

Did you sign a contract? If so you need to read it and all the fine print before deciding to cancel.

I would suggest calling her and requesting a copy of something that shows how much money you have paid to date and how much is left to pay, if she can't provider some sort of statement I would let her know that you are looking for other options. Have the contract handy in case she challenges you.

Reply:You cannot get a receipt because by giving you a receipt, the owner is saying that you have indeed paid in full. Since you have NOT paid the full amount, you can ask her for an estimate or an invoice detailing the amounts due and the products to be provided.

Try going back and work this out with her. Depending on the terms of the agreement you signed, you may not be refunded the money you have already paid.

You say you went with her to get a deal and all your getting is grief, something you dont need at this point.

Your wedding is in june, lots of time to get roses, which are in season in North America anyway. If you have paid a deposit to the flowers, ask for it back and go somewhere else. If you havent, give her a quick call to get the answering machine - means call after hours so you dont have to speak to anyone - and just say simply that you've decided to use someone else for the flowers, thank her for her time and hang up.

Since you dont have a reciept and if you have paid anything down, you have nothing that says you've given this woman money, so until she's willing to give you a 'proof of deposit' your not willing to give her anything. So techincally this woman can deny that you've ever given her anything in the first place.

File the complaint and get those roses from someone else

That covers their behinds if someone tries to say the order was not what they requested. Not sure what to tell you. If some of your flowers have been ordered already you may not beable to back out and get much of a refund. Talk to your fiance. See what he wants to do about it as he is the one who has history with the family. Also, don't forget that people do have bad days. We've all snapped at someone when it wasn't their fault. Reception colors?

My wedding is in July in Vermont. Finding vendors has been difficult, especially flowers. After many ideas denied by florist, we have settled on purple/white hydrangeas with a white peonese (sp?).. but mostly purple. The reception is in an all white tent. My concern, which could be completely off, is that it will be too much white if I have white table cloths. I am thinking of an ivory tablecloth with a sheer ivory overlay. Is this too white? Does anyone have other suggestions for tablecloth colors?

what color will the ribbons for your flowers be? I would use that color, either a white or off white for the table cloths....at least the under cloth that reaches to the floor....there can be a smaller cloth that only hangs down about 10-18 inches from the top...that is a color that coordinates or compliments the colors in your flowers. Don't have all white in an all white tent.

Reply:well I personally dont think a wedding can have TOO much white unless the bride is maybe, like, 80 yrs old or something, but if ur using purple flowers(I think the ones u listed are medium to dark purple, right?)...so how about a lilac coloured tablecloth? Reply:why not add more purple and shades of purple as accent colors. make the bridal table as the white and then additional tables in like purple and lavender and lilac and amethyst you could also use grapes as decorations or accents. the leaves with the grapes are actually very pretty that would also be a good idea for centerpieces maybe a pillar candle surrounded by grapes and leaves (do not need to be real) silver is also a good accent color with purple or antique gold or even black

I have been told that it is better to exchange links only with sites that are related to mine. For example I sell wedding favors and wedding related products and some baby stuff so is it best for me to link to wedding related sites (bakers photographers florists dj's and so on) or does it matter? It is far better to exchange links with sites whose audience is similar to yours. However, you can't know whether someone browsing a site for a toy for their nephew isn't also planning wedding. The more links you have the better, but they need to be quality links. Download the Google toolbar and check that those sites you are interested in have a high Page Rank - 4 or above is best.

You can also find out which sites get a lot of traffic using the Alexa toolbar.

Always look for complementary not competitive sites when trying to find links in your niche, so your list is a good start.

Banners come under advertising rather than links, and as such you usually need to pay for them. Reply:What you need to do is buy white clover seeds and grow your own in painted pots or in your backyard. White clover is the closest to the shamrocks. There are many varieties of clover, so be sure you look at a picture to be sure that it is the look you like. You should also look at Irish gift stores to see if there are alternatives to actual shamrocks like shamrock confetti (be sure you can use that or be willing to clean it up if you want it tossed).

Has anyone had to transport their cut wedding flowers from one place to another?

All I'm having is a bridal boquet, but I'm going to make it myself to save money, so there's not a florist to take care of the transportation.

The wedding is taking place on a saturday afternoon, and we will be travelling to the location on Friday afternoon. We'll be in the car for about 2 hours.

Ok, I worked for a florist for about 2 years....some things to factor in here, and feel free to email me so I can give you better details. The specific flowers you are using will make a difference. if its something like roses, this will be easy to take care of. Something like gerbera daisies or gardenias or tulips or something will make it more difficult b/c its a tempermental flower. Get the flowers as FRESH as possible....check for stifness of petals when you buy them, if they seem a little limp, don't risk it, they will only get more limp. I would make the bouquet that friday morning before you leave. Your gonna want to leave stems showing (you can clip them under the ribbon later if thats the look your going for) and put the bouquet in a CLEAN vase with a little water. This is key, you need to keep them both cool and in water! I would reccomend a portable cooler for the ride to the location, and putting ice AROUND the vase with water in it, not in the vase....that ice would probably be bad for the flowers, but you do want to keep them in a cool environment! I would take the vase with your bouquet in it and immediately refrigerate when I got there. Make sure the flowers aren't pressed against the side of hte cooler or the frigde, it will cause spotting on the petals which can be bad lookin. Keep it cool as long as possible, right before ya take pics or go to the ceremony. Once again, feel free to email me if you have other questions about it, but I think as long as you keep um cool and not touched, you should be ok!
Reply:Put them in a cooler with some of those "blue ice" packs in the bottom. Put a folded towel between the blue ice and the flowers because the blooms could be damamged if they directly touched the blue ice. You could put ice in ziplock back is you don't have the blue ice.

I've had to do this many times over the years for everything from corsages to the bridal bouquet for my youngest daughter's wedding.

This method was recommended to me by my florist and always worked perfect.y

Reply:As long as the flowers won't be in a REALLY hot environment (i.e., the car has AC), they should be fine. However, for safety's sake, I'd recommend packing them in a cooler that's been pre-chilled with ice (which is then removed). Do NOT leave the flowers near ice or anything colder than 40-45 degrees, as it will damage the petals.

Once you reach your destination, DO store the flowers in the refrigerator.
Reply:Put the flowers in a 5 gallon (tall) bucket with some water at the bottom. They'll be fine for the trip there and then you can put the whole thing into the fridge. They'll still be getting water and the tall bucket will keep the water from sloshing out. You'll have to assign one to hold the bucket to keep it from falling over, though. (Or maybe you can buckle it in)

My mom is starting a floral business and is doing her first wedding. She needs something to organize all of her samples of color, material, sketches, lists, dates and times, etc.....what do florists typically use.

I use to have a special filing cabinet and I would file everything I needed in a folder or plastic bag to contain all the material for the event.

Not only did I use the regular hanging calendar, I used a white board and a "Date Book". I kept the date book like a journal of all the things I needed to buy, people I needed to hire, etc.

You can also use plastic drawers (sold at Walmart) if the folder gets to thick and just label the drawer. When event is done, keep everything in case of a dispute.

What kind of budget are you working with?

I think you should go with something simple.

Maybe your girls can carry a ivory/champagne bouquet and you could carry a burgundy bouquet - or vice versa. Or some burgundy, champagne, and yellow roses would look lovely together as well. I think that it would be lovely to use calla lilies and roses. They are simple and elegant flowers - although they can get a little pricey.

I'm making up the ceremony programs and I have a question on how to name something. During the ceremony, I am going to give a rose each to my mother, my grandmother, and my fiance's mother (all the matrons in the families). My cousin did this at her wedding and I thought it was beautiful. I was wondering what you would call this in the program. My florist called it the Sign of Peace, but I don't really like the sound of that.

Do you know the name of this or at least have suggestions for what I can call it?

I don't think theres an exact name for it.. Usually you will have a heading on your program such as this.

Usually the pastor/minster will say these exact words as you hand the roses out. But again, do things the way you like. I've seen this done in so many ways.

Another cool thing if your doing the unity candle. I've seen brides and grooms, take the candle (before it's lit) and the mothers have a lit candle and the bride and groom lite their candle from their mothers and then lite the unity candle.. Symbolizes allot! Is shows a huge amount of respect for the mothers...

There are a ton of neat things to do for respect...

Need advice for talking to florists...?

My wedding is in February, and I'm having a really hard time finding an available florist. Most of them have a one-wedding-per-weekend policy. This is really frustrating because I don't need them to provide full-service for my wedding. I only need: one small bridal boquet, one groom's boutonniere, one or two corsages, and two tall skinny arrangements for the ceremony. (My mom and her best friend have generously offered to drive down a couple of days early and help my friend and me make all the centerpieces for the reception.)

I know that a florist can make an arrangement or two with only a couple of days notice. They do this all the time for dinner parties, business luncheons, and funerals. I think that they hear the word 'wedding' and assume 'full service'.

Should I just ask for the two arrangements and not tell the florist that the arrangements are for a wedding? Should I get the bouquet/boutonniere from a different florist than the arrangements? ...help? :-)

yes pretty much most florists only do one a day as it can take a while if it's big but just have a meeting tell them your happy for someone to pick up this will help you but just explain you don't want a lot also take pic/photos in and show them what you want as this will help you show your not asking for a lot

Reply:Tell them it;s for a wedding, but make sure they know it's not full servie. Then list off what you need. If they say they are unavailable. Ask them if they know of anyone who could help you. Many times they'll give you a name of another florist or someone else. Then call that person. So on and So on til someone says thay can do it. Referals are the best way to go. You might start your conversaiton by saying.:

Hello, my name is ____________ and i'm getting married on ______, I need a couple of corsagers, and a few boquets, and 2 small arangments. Is this something you can help me with?

(Wait for response)

Reply:My husband and I were looking for a really cheap place to get flowers and we saw an advertisement in a window at a Mexican store. We went in to talk to her just to see how much she would charge since every where else was REALLY expensive. We only wanted 16 boutonnieres, 3 bridesmaid bouquets, bridal bouquet, 3 table decorations for bridal party table, and 2 small arrangements for the church. All of that came up to 250 and we only gave her a couple of weeks notice. I was real nervous on how it was going to turn out, but I was ecstatic to find out that they were EXACTLY what I wanted!!!! You could always try going to one of those stores. Hope I helped and Good Luck!!!!!
Reply:Although this may sound cheesy at first, at least check it out...Kroger's floral department. I purchased my flowers from them. I carried long-stemmed calla lilies and my bridesmaids carried bouquets of white flowers and I had a bouquet of daisies to toss. My sister-in-law wrapped the stems of the calla lilies in white ribbon which was very elegant looking. he bridesmaid stems were wrapped in white ribbon, too.

My sister purchased some of her flowers at Kroger and got all of her rose petals there...cheap.

Reply:I think that considering what you want that any florist should be able to accomodate you. Don't even say wedding, just go in knowing what you want and place the order and when you or someone else will pick them up. Likely they only do one wedding because others are ordering hundreds and hundreds of $$ of flowers that have to be delivered and probably takes a couple of them to go and set everything up. There is no reason that they can't have everything done and ready to be picked up. They probably just don't want to have to deliver them if they are already booked for a wedding.
Reply:try a smaller shop...... when you deal with the bigger shops they tend to get out of hand quick can even try the food store sometimes the larger chains have florists in the store. if worse come to worse just get yourself some beautiful roses and some lovely ribbon (figure one roll for each bouquet) arrange roses in an elongated bouquet and then taking the ribbon start from the bottom and wrap up the stems take some nice pearl topped straight pins and secure the ribbon as far as flower arrangements for the altar go see if you can get some nice plants from home depot or lowes colored foil from the craft store and wrap the pots in the color to match your flowers.... everything is do able for mr. wonderful (haha) just give him a rose in his lapel good luck and if you need more advice my name is gidget and i've had my shop for 15 yrs in new jersey

Does anyone know where I can buy dried flowers? I want to make the center pieces for my wedding so I am kind of on a budget. I am wondering if I should bite the bullett and have the florist do the centerpieces with real flowers (40 dollars per centerpiece!) or make my own out of dried flowers. (I am in Michigan)

Have you looked online for ordering bulk fresh flowers to be flown in? www.bigrose.com is a super good site, I used them for our wedding flowers, and there are more who also do it for a very very good price. We got 250 roses for like $200 or something.

Alright, I know this decision is up to me, and me alone, but I have a bad eye for color and picturing things. lol

I was thinking about asking my florist to make this bouquet, http://florists.ftd.com/pricechopper/pro... but with yellow flowers instead of peach. It is a summer wedding and the bridesmaid dresses are dark blue. I think the peach also looks good, but I wanted something bright to lighten up the dresses.

Would the colors look good, or any other ideas/suggestions?

I think the yellow and white together will be quite pretty. The peach are pretty, too, but I agree with going yellow. Make it yellow roses, like this is peach roses, not something like gerbera daisies, that would just be too much bright yellow.

Don't go with red and white, because with the dark blue dresses you would look too patriotic, not that there is anything wrong with being patriotic, just not was wedding colors, in my opinion.

Light orange, lavender, pink all would look nice. I know this is going to sound bizarre, but go down to the hardware store and pick out a paint chip that matches the bridesmaids dress color, and pick up other chips and see how they look together.

Reply:Yellow would be washed out with the cream. I think the peach would look fine with the blue. You could have blue touches within the bouquet, something little, and maybe blue ribbon.

I have been to florist but they are too expensive, like 12 dollars for just one calla lillie, and I need about 50. and on this website growersbox.com they are for like 3 dollars each. but I am not familiar with online shopping and how safe their website is.

Reply:Shopping online is safe. If you have never used their service before, I am not sure I would want to find out about their quality and reliability for my wedding. I use proflowers.com and have always been very happy with them.

Then you can judge by the quality of the flowers and the shipping if it's worth it. I did that with my florist- I ordered flowers for my aunt to test her first. After I saw that I like what she did, I hired her.

we are going to have the wedding next year here in punta cana (where we live) i have no idea what to do next how do i start planning we want to do it in a resort with a wedding coordinator

Kayla, I know this doesn't answer the question you are asking, but I trust you will get all the details of your wedding in perfect order and have a wonderful wedding.

What I would do next, is to get this little book called "The Hard Questions". In it, you and your finance will answer questions about your future together. (what's your dream house/ how many children will you have/ how will you handle disclipline/etc. etc.)

You probably had thought of most of these in advance, however; there's a least a couple in there that you two haven't thought of. Figured that stuff out now, before you say "I do", so much easier.

Reply:The first things to do to start your wedding planning is start a notebook write down your ideas, your wants, likes and dislikes. This will help you come up with a "theme" or common thread for your wedding. It will also help your wedding coordinator get a feel if you are l ooking for casual or more formal and so on, your dress will also give formal clues to this. Once you have picked a theme you are on to colours. Wedding dresses which are custom made sometimes take months to make once they are ordered, so get your dress ordered sooner rather than later to ensure you have time for fittings and such. With weddings there is a lot of planning and such initially, then it calms down and gets busy again right before the wedding.

The most important thing you need to do when planning your wedding is enjoy yourself and make sure you and your beloved spend time having fun. This can be and is often a very stressful time. Remember this is your wedding, and many people will have opinions, but do not let anyone pressure you into doing anything you don't want to do. Best wishes and Good luck

I am having my bridal pictures taken in my hometown. Well actually the town my parents grew up in and where I did most of my growing up. I consider the place I am in now my true hometown. It is where I went to most of highschool at. I am having trouble with my flowers. My florist for the wedding is here and the town where I am taking them is 3 hours away. I have to go down at the begining of the week to take my grandfather to the dr. for surgery and I am staying and helping him and then taking my pictures. So my question is would it be in my best (cheapest) intrest to get silk flowers done there or just a regular flowers? They have great florist there I am just at a loss for what to do. I would call the florist in the town where you're having your bridal photos taken and ask if they could make you a small bouquet for the photoshoot. They should be able to do something cheap and along the lines of your actual bridal bouquet. Then you can compare and choose the cheapest. If you chose the one in the town you are now residing, you can keep a vase of water up front, make sure it's padded and held secure and put a bouquet in it. You can still go the silk route, but if you're having real flowers for the wedding, you may be dissatisfied. Good luck!
Reply:You should just go with silk. Saves having to make sure they stay fresh when you are running here and there. And you can use it as your toss bouquet and then have your real bouquet preserved for memories.

Or you could use the silk on for your keep bouquet and toss the real ones and let them worry about the process of preserving them. Then you can give your silk one to your parents as a memento in a private moment of thanks for the wedding and everything before you leave for the reception. Imagine how proudly displayed it will be next to your lovely wedding photograph.

PS- Tell your grandpa I said to get well soon and to give em all heck.

Reply:Photographer, for sure. He just put up with your family and his family for what I'm sure was a good part of his day. I'd tip mine, he'd of earned it.

The florist? Only if the flowers beat your expectations, or you harrassed the crap out of them in the preparation.

Seriously though - it's considered polite to tip people doing you such a favor (even if you are paying them for it) - so, i personally would say, "Yes."

Reply:If you feel the level of service justified more that what you were charged...Usually the photographer and florists are hired as independent contractors so they have charged you an amount of money so that they WILL make money.

It is NOT like a food server that charges you someone elses price and get paid the Food Service Federal Minimum Wage of no less than $2.13/hour...Food Servers work for Tips...Independent Contractors don't...

Reply:It's not necessary. I didn't, but then again, I didn't have a florist or a photographer at my wedding. I picked up a few spring bouquets from Wal-Mart as the flowers, and my BIL took the pictures.

I'm a simple kind of gal, and I REALLY hate how fussy and showy weddings have become.

I have absolutely no idea what to expect for the cost of the florist for our wedding. I don't even want a lot of flowers, and the bridesmaid's bouquets will just be three large roses tied together with satin. How much would the average florist charge per bouquet? We don't even want floral centerpieces - just tall branches with votive candles hanging off them. I'd just like an idea before we start interviewing florists to get an idea.

Please only answer if you happen to have experience in the floral industry or have planned a wedding before. Thanks :)

It depends on the time of year..For example, around Valentines Day, they will be much more expensive.
Reply:It depends on the florist and also WHEN you buy the flowers. It is cheaper to go through a wholesale florist because they buy directly from the growers, and the flowers are fresher. However, the cost of flowers can vary, depending on timing. For example, my florist told me not to have my consultation until after Valentine's Day, because the weeks leading up to it, the prices of flowers go up (from the growers) but right after they go down. Same thing with Mother's Day. Once my price is quoted and the deposit is paid, it can't go up. But each florist differs...

Anyway, to give you a number, I would't spend more than $20 per bouquet for a three-rose ensemble

Order bulk roses from www.costco.com and make your own bouquets. They come in 125 stems and cost either $189 or $219 depending on the color you order.

You could even make your own bridal bouquet if you wanted and /or use any leftover for rose petals, etc. It is easy. You need florist tape, wire, ribbon, straight pins with pearl embellishment on tip and hairspray. It only takes a few minutes. Google it. You will pay double or triple for such an easy task through a florist.
Reply:I am having bouquets of 6 roses made for my bridesmaids and am paying $45 each for them.
Reply:I paid $65 for cream roses (approx. 8-10 roses) in my bridesmaid's bouquet, and $125 for mine (all roses....probably about 20).

In total we ordered: 2 bouquets (just me and a MOH), 6 boutonnieres, 4 corsages, 2 candelabra pieces for the church, and rose petals for the tables at the reception and flower girl and paid about $500. Hope that helps!!
Reply:It depends on what time of the year you are planning on. If you are planning on getting roses for the bridesmaids around Valentine's Day expect the price to be considerably high.

If you are planning to do it another time of the year that isn't around any other major holiday (flower prices will go up around the holidays) then I would expect you to pay somewhere around $30-$35. You might be better off doing it yourself if you only want 3 roses for the bridesmaids. Get some fabric/ribbon from a craft store and buy a few dozen roses--you can wrap them up the morning of...it'll save you a lot of money.
